Yeah it was 3rd gear that blew and very easily too, i rekon it's putting out about 225 - 250rwkw i haven't even had it dyno tuned yet, i got one of the qld wolf distributers to street tune it for fuel economy with 10psi boost and i guess it was too much for the t5z, i'm going to get it dyno tuned with the new gearbox and go for some serious power anywhere between 350rwkw and 400rwkw will do, check out this site and see what you rekon about these boxes.

Go TKO they are around half the $$$ of a T5/6..
You don't need the close gears ayway..
With 4.0's looong stroke they produce SOOooo much torque.. It breaks transmissions easy..
Talk to Mal Wood .....
TKO's are tronger than TOP Loaders by alongshot...

3rd gear lasts about 3 secs once i flick it to high boost in mine...

i was going to go with the gforce a***, i spent a couple of weeks researching the pros/cons of it all, it is apparent that the t5's achilles heel is the case, it flexes too much, which allows the gears (especially 3rd since it has the least bearing support) to run out of mesh slightly, once the gears start to run on the tips of the teeth its ALL OVER, i decided it would be a complete waste of money to spend that sort of $ on the T5, when there is tried and tested stronger alternatives, ie. the R154... you will find lots of evidence of BIG HP cars using these boxes, and the only weak point i could find was a thrust washer behind 1st gear, if you replace that then there is no other problems to be had from what i found.... some 600+ rwhp supras use them. they are among the strongest factory 5spds avaliable

i like the R154 due to its cost also, i will be able to do the conversion myself for about $2500. try buy and fit a t56, tko600 for that price. that includes a custom built carbotic button clutch from Jim Berry.

build a c10 with a c9 convertor and a Torque-Power bellhousing.
Restrict your mods to a drilled intermediate plate (aka shift kit), rear case oiling mod, high flowed pump cover, 5 pack of quality clutches, kevlar bands and an R or H code servo.

A box like that shouldn't cost much over $1500, Bellhousing $600, Convertor ??? (you might have to track one down from an XB then get it modded). I've just home-built this combo to go behind a BA conversion. You could get out of it cheaper depending on how much you are prepared to learn about autos.

A TKO is $4600 RRP from Mal Wood and is rated in terms of torque handling capability, not horsepower. Be careful to get what you pay for as i've had morons trying to convince me that their TR3550's are TKO's.

sorry to say it, but, as i suspected and mentioned in your other thread about the g-force box.. You do need a new clutch plate

Yes it's ok i work at a gearbox and diff service center so getting as new clutch isn't a problem, and for the dodgy looking pipe work well that was just made to test the car see i lost my licence 6 months ago and still have 1 month to go and i just been waiting for this gerbox to come before i spend money else where on the car, now i have the box i will do 3 inch pipe owrk, battery in boot and bring pod filter to where batt was, i will be putting my turbo cam in too with a twin fuel pump setup and surge tank, i'm also yet to install my turbo cam and dyno tune it. I'll keep u posted

cool project mate..
sounds like some serious power!!

what is your new box? i have just got a t56 for my car as there hasn't been any failures from too much power that i have heard of..

my t5z didn;t last at stock power (~200rwkw) so im not surprised yours didn't!!

antone interested in a t5z with no 2nd syncro, teeth or 5th syncro?? they really are a shyte box haha
