As much as I like the auto, I find the T5 heaps better. You can put more power to the ground alot quicker. IMO Of course. Every one has there personal preferances. I was once driving an auto!

Well then youd know although you loose slightly more power to the ground with a stock BTR auto over the stock T5 manual the difference down the qtr mile on paper is .5 of a second difference and less depending on the driver.

If you want the manual feel or close to it for less than a manual conversion you can install a decent shift kit...heaps larger transcooler and a good stall/torque convertor either 2500-3000rpm one that feels awesome. But yeah thats my opinion manuals are more a drivers choice but sometimes it aint just you drivin or with big HP cars peak hour traffic sucks...so the autos come in handy.

Next thing is strength the T5 will hold that glorious 250rwkw figure for what round the 25mins to an hour mark....the auto about 220rwkw....but for a grand yes less than a rebuild you can get most of the internals replaced and beefed up with the internals from the XR6Ts.....to what rwkw figure they would hold then im in the process of finding out....but yeah each to their own

stick with the auto, they will take heaps more than the T5 anyday. You just have to mod the auto to shift quicker with a resister mod which one of the guys explained above, and its not the shift kit mod. This mod completely bypasses the S5 solenoid and is the correct way to get it shifting hard.

The turbo autos are quicker than any manuals also. Check out www.fordxr6turbo.com and autos are doing the quickest times with same/similar power to manuals. With N/A its debatable

Not neccessarily, Gforce in the USA have just released a T5 gear set. It comes in either dog or syncromesh. When combined with their mainshaft they claim ~600hp or 500lb. Rebuilding the gearbox yourself with all the syncromesh bits should cost you less than $3000 AUS.

Then you have a gearbox that bolts straight in with no mods, better shift feel than a T56, handles heaps of power, good selection of shifters and no one can tell looking from the outside (insurance/legalities). In addition too the T56 normally has very bad 5th and 6th gear ratios requiring manditory diff gear change to make them nice to use.

Have a look at the TKO boxes from Mal Wood. They are a much stronger 5 speed box, apparently rated to 800 hp.. And you will probably get one from them for similar price to the rebuild t5 box price..

your looking at a z-spec tremec 5sp TKO for around the 4.5K mark otherwise 6K for t56 to hold round 350rwkw th $8K setup was for 400+rwkw and think its more close to 11K with all the pedal box re-inforcemenetns and brass button twin plate clutch

good luck with the sm4 and battery in boot wiring, i just finished mine, ripping out the old loom and installing a new one sounds easy.... especially if you want to retain everything factory, all gauges, a/c etc. dunno bout ef but on the eb the a/c for example is controlled by the ecu which uses a thermistor to measure evap temp, not a thermostat, so i had to drill and mount a thermostat on my heater box and just use the sm4 for rpm A/C cutout. What are you doing for ign? std coils

also, how much did you pay for your sm4?
