TO4 compressor wheels go straight on these turbos. The one you have is off a series 5 RX-7. You can get the standard compressor housing bored out to suit a V trim (55mm) front wheel but thats as far as you can go without welding a new snout on.
To go bigger than this you need to bolt on the TO4 backing plate and then use whatever compressor cover you like. 66mm compressor wheels from the TO4e go straight on the shaft. Personally I'd try it and see. Then let us all know what these thing work like. Very good units can be picked up from $200. Cheap power! A rotary TO4 should have an exhaust A/R of at least 1.0, but more than likely 1.15....ideally 1.32. You wont get boost early with that setup. You can, however, bolt the entire TO4 assembly into the Hitashi exhaust housing off the RX-7 turbo for the better balanced turbo for the inline 6. Forget about big boost though unless you have an external wastegate. Anything else? Chris |

I have 2 s5 turbos....and a TO4B-60 and a TO4e66......and a TA51......and a TV91.....
Anyhow, as you may have guessed, my other car (my fast one) is a Mazda. I was a Ford fanatic at 17 but always liked the rotary. I've picked up quite a bit from sticking my nose under the bonnet of my Mazda. The rest.....I doubt you or anyone else here on a Ford forum would be interested in. Except maybe the TO4B-60 which is destined for my EA once I put tha AU motor in. Chris |

your not on ausrotary are you?
also why dont you expect i will get boost early and not get big boost? I was hoping for early boost that fell away after about 4500rpm. |

Yes I'm on Ausrotary.
It wasn't you that I told not to sell their S5 turb? You won't get early boost with a TO4 with a turbine setup for a rotary....they are generally way too big. And I meant forget about trying big boost with the stock series 5 wastegate as it wont flow enough. If you do you'll have big boost whether you like it or not. Chris |

yep was me, you must be xhristofer.
so would this be overcome to some extent by welding the wastegate shut and externally gating it? Also when does boost start to become "big boost" in your opinion? |

Yes that's me. Yes welding and an external gate will overcome spiking.
Big boost for a S5 turbo is 12psi and up. For me its 20 and up.... Just remember that a full TO4 assembly will add 30% more power at the same boost. Can get costly. My TO4B-60 only cost me $600 and is fully rebuilt with 360 degree thrust. The bargains are out there. But what you have will still be heaps of fun. If your looking for a setup of a rotary, an entry point TO4 (for a rotor) would be suitable. Look for an exhaust A/R of around 1.0 and a 0.6 A/R compressor cover with 60mm wheel. Chris |

well i dont have a rotary and i wont be going over 12psi on the falcon 6 so i shouldnt have a big problem. I will look at getting a larger compressor wheel in the future, do you have a link or contact details for where you sourced yours from?

I only commented on the rotary setup because I thought you might have one lined up that used to reside on a rotary.

Turns out it wasn't even you. Try here for compressor wheel size reference and part numbers: {DESCRIPTION} Then here to get prices: {DESCRIPTION} Click on contact to make your order. Hope that helps. Chris |

6 blades but what series is it? the compressor wheel is ~ 48mm and the exhaust wheel ~ 58mm The walls for the compresspr housing leading into the compressor wheel have a different thickness top and bottom, bottom is about 3mm and top is about 5mm, has it been bored out already or are they just a cheaply manufactured turbo? |

Quite a few I've seen have been bored off centre.
You can use TO4B wheels in them for a highflow. Mine has a 409179-0025 wheel in it at the moment. You can use any TO4 wheel around this size (no bigger) if you want to retain the standard cover. The backing plate and cover will need machining to suit. If you replace the backing plate and cover with TO4 items you can use as big as you want. You can also use a TO4 turbine wheel if you machine the exhaust housing to suit. The rebuild kit for these is just a TO4 kit anyway. A mild upgrade to the compressor wheel is all I'd attempt as it gets expensive swapping too much around, and you'd be better off with a full TO4 anyway. |
