heres some pics of my turbo, to save and embarrasment and potentially detructive problem can someone please confirm that the labels i have given are correct
A-Oil drain B-Oil inlet C-water outlet D-water inlet Is this all right? |

I just realised that "D" must be the oil outlet because oil coming out of the turbo is thick like cream and needs a bigger pipe whick makes B the oil inlet.
Does it matter which way i connect the water lines? |

What size turbo is it, and what's it going on. Looks very small for a I6?

thats the idea, i want it to be small, its to give a boost in low and mid range.
Its going on an EA fairmont Ghia manual however another one has come up for grabs cheap . ............ |

looks like an RX7 13b turbo. the easy way to remember what is what. the oil return is the large non-threaded hole. oil flow is %99 of the time top to bottom and water flow is %99 of the time side to side. |

Yeah, it does look like a brap brap turbo of some variety... big bum, little front... typical rotor style

yep RX7 turbo, what effect does the large exaust housing compared to the front have?

Bigger exhaust housing is to suit the rotories large exhaust flow and the comp housing were sized to suit motors power band.
it'll work on the 4lt, the comp wheel and housing are really to small but you'll get early boost as you would a small turbo, but due to the largish ex housing, the motor will breath better than a small turbo. But, remember they are really old, ineffient turbos and are far from ideal for a 4lt, but you'll get boost, though higher psi than a correctly sized turbo |

Have a good look at the exhaust housing and make sure the flapper is not to flogged out and check for any cracks very common with these turbos I looked into one of these a long time ago but found a truck turbo that was a little more suited to the 4L.

Yes the wastegate as they are set up oval they have a tendacie to flex and ware the housing the best way to fix it is to remove the flapper drill the housing out and fit a steal bush and it will last a lot longer other then that weld the flap in place and fit an external gate.
