hi guys, i have a ba xr6 turbo. by the sounds of things they are a garrett GT35/40 turbo. the turbo shaft has no play in it and the free spin on the turbo when u spin it goes for ever so im guessing the turbo shaft bearings are shagged. my question is how bad is it to get that fixed? is it gonna cost the same to buy a second hand turbo as it is to get a bearing kit put thru it.
any info is appreciated guys

there is nothing wrong with it!!
no play and the turbo spins smooth for a long time is a good thing..

if there is shaft play ,doesnt spin with ease or is noisy then it needs to be rebuilt..

the noise could be oil starvation to the turbo?
has the inline filter ever been checked or replaced?
usually a rebuild is around $700-1000 depending on whats needed...

Im with Troyman.
BA Turbos are very well known for oil starvation issues to the turbo.
Im tipping the bronze inine filter is blocked.
I believe Earls do a bypass and filter kit now that can be serviced.

Try the oil filter kit first.
Dont the bearings seem rattly and loose in these turbos until they get oil pressure and the film to take up the movement?

ok so there is a slight possability that it might still be ok and that the filter might just be blocking oil getting to the bearings and when the pressure builds it back up the noise might dissapear?

ok ill take the filter off tomorrow and start there i guess.....

does anyone know any decent places to get turbos rebuilt in adelaide?
