Hi All, I'm wondering what my compression ratio would be with a 1.6mm gasket (copper) fitted.
The AU standard is 9.6:1....is there a formula to work out what the new lowered compression ratio would be? Just a question out of interest.

You have to know a few things like head CC . Deck height of piston, any dish etc in piston..
Bore and stroke ... http://www.turbofast.com.au/TFcomp.html This is static comp which is different to dynamic.. Static comp never changes ...

Wow that's an awesome calculator. I can find bore, stroke, gasket thickness and compression ratio, but wouldn't know how to find deck height or head volume. Any ideas where I 'd gather this info?

BEFORE fitting your head you should have cc'd the chambers and if any piston bowl ? That too..
Also should have checked deck height.. Or its almost guess work working what manuals say.. A rough way is you know or have been told its 9.6 comp...Then play with figures on there till you get that. Then add the thickness of new gasket...

I didn't fit the head, but that sounds like a good rough way to get an estimate. I'll give it a go - Cheers.

Ok, I think the XR6 head volume is 66cc, bore is 93mm, stroke 99mm, and with deck height set at .030 thousandths of an inch, I got around 9.6:1 compression ratio with a standard (.040 thousand of inch) gasket.
Did some mm to inch conversions, changed to my 1.6mm gasket, and compression came down to 9.19:1. Does that sound about right? Excellent calculation tool.
