howdy, im pretty new to this part of the site so go easy on me,

anyway, i have an eb 5speed, with reasonably worked motor (20thou over pistons, acl bearings, 45thou off head, bigger cam, bigger exhaust valves) but im after a bit more power and a few of my mates have said to get a 4AGE supercharger for it. i talked to my mechanic and he said that for the total setup i would be lookin at around $2500. plus BBM (if i want it)

just wondering what you guys thought and if you could give me some pros and cons

cheers.

also some detailedinfo on what is going to need to be done would be great thanx.

The 4age is only a 1.6 isnt it? Compared tot he 4 litre falcon. I doubt it would do much, youd be better off going for something larger!

they run 6PSI boost stock

as for piss all torque? they make a fair bit, i belive those blowers are not linear boost, their on full boost by like 2500 rpm?

those cars can run 12's with 17psi, intercooler, rockers and exhaust

My mate had one of those vy supercharged things it didnt go that good he traded it off and with a little bit more cash he got a mk2 XR6T it went a hell of alot better. They needed turbos inplace of superchargers i think.

4AGZE is the s/c engine...
Even the s/c off the 2 ltr Toyota 6 is too small for 4.0...

Maybe...
But I certainly wouldn't want to be the one trying to squeeze two of them in there and piping it all up!

Yep teh sc-12 charger off the 4agze is deffiantely too small, a few people have used the sc-14 off the 1g-gze and i believe castle main rod shop have a kit for the xf. Although only small boost levels and power can be achieved. Best just save and get a snort stage 1 turbo kit or somethiong.

i dont mean to argue,

but are you sure that it is off a 1.6 litre because i was told it was off a 3 litre, and i was warned that the boost i would probably max out around 6-8psi, but that was all i was after.

also i was talking to another guy at my mechanics the other day (he was just another cstomer) and he said he used to have 2 of them on his old ed, he said they cut they cut off the top half of his intake manifold and put them back to back. aparently that was putting aout a little under 400rwkw.

A 4AGE is definetely a 1.6L engine out of Corolla and 4AGZE is definetely the s/c variant of the engine as EBXR8380 has mentioned. I'm a bit sceptical of that twin supercharged ED's figures and the advice and ideas you are being given by your mechanic. An EB-AU stage 2 Snort Performance turbo system would be a wiser choice for $2500.

Here is a quote directly froma technical document on www.toymods.org.au

"Toyota engine codes are split into two sections, the bit before the dash, and the bit after it (eg: 2JZ-GTE).

Before the dash.
The letters signify the "family" or "series" of the engine. The numbers signify a revision of the bottom end (ie: bore, stoke, block). Higher numbers don't necessarily mean a larger block.
For example, the twin turbo engines in modern Supras are the 1JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GTE. The 1JZ is a 2.5L engine, while the 2JZ is a 3.0L. Both are twin turbo inline sixes.
After the dash.
The letters after the dash specify the features of the engine.
G - Wide angle Twin Cam (sportier head)
F - Narrow angle Twin Cam (economical head)
T - Turbocharged
Z - Supercharged
E - Electronic Fuel Injection
U - Emissions control (Japanese)
C - Emissions control (Californian).

Sample Engines And Their Codes
These are a few engines that can be found in our members' cars.
4A-GE: 1.6L DOHC EFI 16V inline four cylinder
4A-GE (20 Valve): 1.6L DOHC EFI 20V inline four cylinder
4A-GZE: 1.6L DOHC EFI 16V supercharged inline four cylinder
7A-FE: 1.8L DOHC EFI 16V inline four cylinder
1G-GTE: 2.0L DOHC EFI 24V intercooled twin turbo inline six cylinder
3/4K-C: 1.3L OHV Carby 8V inline four cylinder (4K block, 3K head)
5M-E: 2.8L SOHC EFI 12V inline six cylinder
7M-GTE: 3.0L DOHC EFI 24V turbocharged inline six cylinder
18R-C: 2.0L SOHC Carby 8V inline four cylinder
18R-GEU: 2.0L DOHC EFI 8V inline four cylinder
3S-GE / 3S-FE: 2.0L DOHC EFI 16V inline four cylinder
3S-GTE: 2.0L DOHC EFI 16V turbocharged inline four cylinder
2T-G: 1.6L DOHC 8V inline four cylinder"

I also verymuch doubt the figures that guy quoted for the ed. 400rwkw takes a very serious turbo build to achieve. I was planing on using one of the sc-14 blowers on my ea a few years back untill i was told by many places that i wouldnt be able to achieve
any higher then 160rwkw.
