hey mate i have a turbo ef i am building, just a question on the ecu, i called a tuner about getting a computer and tune for my ef and he said there is a possibility that the stock ecu can shutdown because of boost pressure, what computer do u have? and do you know how much boost pressure the stock ecu can handle? because i am getting a piggyback system to control injector pulse width etc and i still want the stock one to run my A/C and all of those things. cheers,
Corbin

Talk to your local tuner.. I like EMS 8860 on Ford 6's..
My mate has approx 370 rwkw on std internals [yes a grenade] on C16..
So the EMS keeps good tune and control...
Go the extra ignition modules and run direct ignition...

OK, newbie question time...

How do you calculate all the A/F's or A/R's & all them other numbers to properly match a turbo to your engine application?

P.S.

Holy f**k, what a machine.....

Man this thread keeps on getting better & better.....

Custom Interior i see for the near future :) :) :)

Then Street Machine or Fast Fords or maybe both LOL

What engine do you wanna slap a turbo on? A 4L?

yes i have an AU Series II Fairlane with a VCT Engine.

So after reading all these threads/posts about turbo's my imagination got the best of me & my spirit now wants a Turbo VCT

For now i will leave everything stock meaning no engine work apart from the CAI, Exhaust & custom tune i already have oh & the JMM 3K stallie.

A stage 1 or stage 2 kit from Snort looks the go, considering everything comes with the kit, so for me that means minimal down time & more fun time.

Anyway back to my problem after reading up on all these turbo mods etc all these A/R's & A/F's numbers are going through my head without a complete understanding of what they actually mean & how i will benefit or further more which is setup is actually best suited for what i want.

Well if you get a kit from snort performance they have suitable turbos for the falcon 4.0l engines. The A/R is the housing size so let's say for example with my Garrett gt3582r it has a a/r .70 compressor housing which is the intake side or cold side. And I have gone with a 1.06 rear housing or exhaust housing. Smaller rear housings will make the turbo more responsive because less exhaust gasses are required to turn the turbine so there for will spool up quicker e.g .82 or .64 but larger rear housings such as 1.00 or 1.06 will be a little laggier but has more room for higher power figures. For a 4l a larger rear housing like these are suitable because of the engine capacity and you wont really find it that laggy.

Oh and I'm not sure what you mean by A/F maybe you mean AFR's which stands for air fuel ratios. Anyways if your keen on
Learning more just do a search or read the sticky at the top of the forced induction section about how to turbo your I6 the DIY way that has alot of useful info.

The a/r isn't the housing size. The turbo's wheel sizes determine the size of the turbo and it's housings. The a/r is a ratio based on the size of the housing.

Despite similar a/r's a 1.06 rear on a gt25 is still way too small for a falcon. A 1.05 on a gt45r is probably too big.

A .84 on a t04z is nearly the same as a 1.06 on a gt35r.

Look at the turbobygarrett website for more info. This is a build thread.

I was going to go onto wheel sizes but I thought I'd stop because your right this is a build thread...
