when turn car off the turbo makes a grinding noise. Ford reckons nothing is wrong

nothing is wrong, thats the turbo slowing down you can hear, my turbo winds down for about 30secs or so...
the noise is evident when you switch off because you are no longer pumping oil pressure into the turbo bearings, and the turbo centre is still rotating at around 6000rpm

Needs a turbo timer so the turbo slows down while still having oil pressure

The xr6ts and typhoons and everything do not need turbo timers.. they r built to be able 2 turn off straight away |

lol, gee, thats a brilliant idea.... how long did you think about that??? problem goes like this: engine running, turbo spinning, oil pressure present... stop engine, turbo still spinning, no oil pressure.... how can a turbo timer stop that?? like i said, your turbo will be still spinning in the vacinity of 6000rpm...

Don't they keep the oil moving through the turbo anyway once the car is off? Something to do with theromodynamic stuff?

If you knew the principle of a turbo timer you wouldn't say non informed statements how many turbo vehicles have you serviced or rebuilt

mate, your comments keep getting more silly.... i think you need to think a bit deeper about the issue at hand.
i can tell you that we are not discussing letting a turbo cool down before switching off the engine, we are not talking about allowing oil to flow through the engine/turbo while it is idling...... if you can grasp this threads discussion, then can you PLEASE clearly explain, what it is you think a turbo timer will do to avoid the previously mentioned issue????????? thankyou oh, and as for how many turbo things ive been involved with, well, there is a chance that maybe i havent had as much to do with them as you, but guess what??? that makes you look even MORE stupid by saying what you are saying..... you should steer clear of anything turbo if you cant grasp the concept

I would like an explanation of this magic turbo timer too.

That is thermosyphoning. Im not sure if it applies to the oil but it definately happens with the coolant. |

wtf is this guy for real. he must not under stand that Ball Bearing turbos still spin at 5000-10000rpm at idle no matter how long u let it idle.

Leave him alone. He's a real old school car guy. Almost 70 years of age and owns a XW GTHO. I don't think his knowledge of turbo's goes beyond anything from the 80's like a nissan exa turbo.
