hey everyone....Im a real noob to the world of forced induction.....but i do know what the difference between a turbo and supercharger is =D.

anyways to the idea....is it at all possible to connect a super charger and have like an on and off switch for it? normal city driving have it off.....racing/drags put it on?

im assuming superchargers are using the pulley system running straight from the existing belts and stuff....and have hydrolic or electronic controlled pulleys that could move the belt from the blower when off...and when on, the pulley would move the belt back onto the blower.

probably not possible since i haven't heard it before but it would be a grand idea right?

phong =P~

well, a screw type supercharger forces air into the engine and is driven by the crank, so maybe you could modify one to switch it off?

im thinking......but u can't turn the aircon compressor on and off can u? like the pulley bit....cause doesn't the pulley bit put a bit of strain onto the engine hence the slightly poorer economy?

the aircon compressor has a clutch on it.

try looking at the very front of the pully when the aircon is off, versus when the aircon is on.
the pulley is always spinning, but the shaft itself is only spinning when the clutch engages itself.

learn something new everyday.....so im guessing its feasable? and would it be wise too?

i don't think it'd be that worth it honestly.
a supercharger has the BOV set to vent and excess air anyway.
if its tuned right, there would be no need to even turn it off.

but wouldn't that increase fuel eco a lot? compared to a turbo? i mean id have it off while city driving and on while racing.....

i don't think you'd see much of a difference.

hmmmm......i would think it would use much more petrol when u have a supercharger on it even if ur light footed then if u didn't have a blower?

you can actually get a supercharger like that from the jap wreckers. more something you'd put on a commodore though. a ford running over 120rwkw would be trying to suck the thing through the throttle body.

yeah... there is a toyota super charger like that.. similar to how the air con works with it's clutch etc... a mate had one in at his work... had to take it for a test drive... and noticed the boost guage... but it never made boost.. he didn't know what the go was... after he got it back to the workshop.. he asked his old man (who he works with) and they found the switch to turn the supercharger on... he never drove it after they found the switch tho...

as was said.. i don't think you'd notice too much difference in fuel economy anyway... if you are light footed... it would make three fifths of f*#k all difference...

but a cool idea nonetheless...

Superchargers aren't really that bad on fuel, most factory supercharger setups are designed to get better economy than na lol.
It just wouldn't be worth it.
