Been looking into a few of the nos kits avaliable. This facination began with playing need for speed and it appears one can realize this dream for about 800 dollars.
It doesnt seem that using nos is a popular choice, but do the 6's (or 8's) work very well on dry nos? Can it be safe?

NOS can be safe but you need a good tune as with anything that gives that much power. It is also not that popular because it is illegal to run on the road, and obviously can cause big engine damage if not tuned properly.

i have to say it, how does it go, your floor panel will fall out and you will get manifold damage if you use too much NOS

A dry nos kit is fine so long as you have headroom with your fuel system.
No good putting a 150hp kit on stock injectors and fuel pump. You will be one of those horror pics we always see. Shane

Done a bit of reading on NOS, moslty American though. It might look like what I have been after, as (touch wood) my new years resolution should give me some cash which I will put towards mods.
In terms of price, how does a setup compare with the turbo and super charger options? Cheaper I would assume. Seems that a bolt on kit costs around the 850 mark. What about hidden costs? I got to do some investigation into the leagal aspects of this though (it would be difficult to explain to my insurance company) Asside from money and legal issues can I ask wether anyone has ever heard of NOS for an E-series car? Are there any places which specialize in NOS or articals featuring NO2 in an E-Series?

NOS is completly illegal for road use, you arent even allowed to have the bottles connected, SO a turbo/supercharger would be better if you want performance all the time, not just on the track,
oh, and there is this: http://www.macmurchie.com/why_not.htm

What about hidden costs? Only hidden costs that come to mind are refilling the bottle. And probably tuning (or alternative - replacing broken stuff, lol). Probably a little more than 'difficult' to explain to the insurance company. Most likely, even if they allow unlimited mods, there will be a clause which says the car has to be legal/roadworthy. So i guess if you get an answer on the legalities, will give some insight for your insurer. Might wanna get in touch with FPV56L on here - he loves his nos and probably has some tips for setting up on an eseries. "Granny shifting... not double clutching like ya shoulda"

You shoulda thunk of this idea sooner cuz there was a 6cyl NOS kit on e-bay not that long ago.

Installing Nitros Oxide isnt anything I want to rush into.
I think there are some (not quite right word!) legal issues about NOS, there was a bit of info regarding NOS and legal aspects in SM a while back. Need to look into. Keeping eyes and ears open.

Personally dude i wouldnt worry about it, spend your money on getting some decent extractors and a new exhaust system or something. Unless you are going to go to A.I.R every weekend; why would you want to have it?
But yeah just my opinion dude

Why? Best value for money for the gains (albeit short)! Nothing extractors or some cam will do for you.. If you're worried don't get it, if you aren't then get it.
Do you currently get pulled over or have had your car looked at for defects?

As long as he drives nicely then they wont pull him over lol.
IMO i would not worry about it, unless i wanted to seriously think about making my XR a drag/track car or whateva i just dont see the point. But yeah it would be something decent to brag about i guess
