Hey guys was talking to a bloke @ work the other day and whining about how late i think my turbo will start spooling, he seems to think a 50hp shot of nos will help it spool quicker. This would only be because the revs will jump quicker yes????? The way he made it sound it would spool @ 2000 as opposed to 3000 because of the nos, just wondering if hes talkin s**t or not........
Not really planning to run it just interested. |

It will certianly help but not really efficient. If you wanna get your RPM up quicker you should look at a lightweight flywheel or adding a 2nd turbo (Tiny winy one)

yes that would be an exellent way to improve spool up time, used extensively in drag racing and even some drifting is allowing n2o to be used.
Its very efficient but not economic as you have to fill up your bottle with n2o every time it runs out, unless you only use n20 when dragging |

A costly way to spool your turbo up quicker...Not to mention if you get done by the Coppers, she's a solid fine and could very result in the confiscation of your vehicle???

I would do the basics first to get the turbo to spool more quickly. Electronic boost control that you can eliminate wastegate creep. Low backpressure exhaust, free flowing pre and post turbo piping ect. Then if the turbo is still spooling too late work out if you want N2O or will accept putting on smaller turbine and compressor wheels on
Edit-N2O also has an intercooling effect which is worth considering. If you can afford it, and make it stealth enough so not as to be defected then go for it I say, at your own risk of course |

i'm gunna wait to see what rpm mine will spool at.. and then take action from there..

N20 will help no end ... BUT only at the drags..
Talk to your tuner? Some retard and rich mixture can help... If you have split turbine entry you could restrict one side...Efffectivley making A.R smaller... If your realy smart you could rig up a gate that closes one side tll turbo spools, then it opens...

how early do you want to spool the thing, in on-road tuning of my eb 4l with a gt35/40, 1.06 ex housing, we were seeing 12-13psi at just 45% throttle, at 21-2200rpm...

Its more the time it takes rather than rpm....
What are your turbo specs? Exhaust trim etc???

once the final tuning is done, i will datalog some wot applications, and then i will post up my spoolup times

Ive got a garrett to4z sitting on the shelf in my room anyone got an estimate for spoolup?? Also does anyone have an idea of how to keep my 2 gas converters running @ 60 deg instead of the engines operating temp?? Worried about knock if the octane rating of the gas drops too much due to hot converters have been told it can come down to 80!!! Which obviously would cause some serious problems once the turbo is on.....

i would probably change the diff ratio to possibly 3.55 or somewhere around there hope this helps

true but will help it get off th line quicker and keep revs between shifts higher to help eliminate the lag as well ,this is another option that would help without the need to run nos
