Hi Guys,
I have an XR6 turbo, running 14ps1, valve springs, injectors, phoon intake, exhaust. The car doesnt heat up more than half way even when flogging it, but but you sit it in the garage, far out it emits heat!! It boils up the whole garage. Sometimes I have to leave the hood up and the garage open to get some cooling going on. What can I do to keep the car running cooler? Its just so hot under the hood after you have been boosting it up out on the road..

Have you got a bigger cooler? Maybe llok at something like the monza one. For $450 there great value. this will help with the cooling.
I've got similar mods on my T to you and yes the block does get very hot even though it doesn't get close to half way. Theres no problem so if you can't be stuffed with the cooler then don't worry about it. |

If you have a larger cooler, is it one that restricts the flow of air to your radiator? You can buy a better cooler that doesn't necessarily take up massive amounts of room. The restricted airflow from a larger cooler, might not be noticeable on the road (not above half on temp gauge) esp. when you're moving thru air.... But when you stop, the engine bay starts paying for it. Engines don't cool down really fast to start with, and any mods that stop the flow of even some air can stuff things up.
If this is the case, I'd be looking to upgrade my thermo's at the very least, maybe even think of upgrading your radiator. After all, your car was made to handle less psi (and therefore heat and strain) and combined with the possibility of having a larger cooler, you have after all made the engine run at 14psi (at least double) and probably played a lot with the plumbing of the turbo (extractors, cooler, dump, etc) and the car's cooling just might be struggling a little.... and summer is coming up ...but hey, if I've just ranted on for a bit and wasted your time, sorry... but it worked out for my mate, thought I'd share

had the same problem with my mates, used a smaller cooler, with a wider inlet so the radiator had better access, also upgraded the thermo's... now he don't really have much of a problem with the heat

Might think of fitting an oil cooler while your at it too. Engine oil gets pretty darn hot as well.

I always assume the turbo guys here would run oil coolers on thier beast.
