Get an aftermarket ECU, run the 36's, and a walbro 255 intank will do the job, Then tune and bobs your uncle

The XR6T rising rate reg will work.
A 255lb Walbro is the hoey. A set of 29 to 36lber's will run it ,more head room with the 36er's if you want more later,you might lose some economy with the 36er's but hoo gives.

the walbro 341 is a 255 intank pump and i got a 1:1 adjustable rising rate reg.. i have got a set of 36lb injectors but im going to use the ba xr 29lb untill i get ecu/tune.. |

The whole point for 'rising rate' regs (2:1, 12:1) is to raise fuel pressure to injector MORE fuel on boost. All a 1:1 reg does is equalise rail pressure against whats in the manifold... So the same amount of fuel will go in as N/A, not good! Unless your injectors are being told to open for a longer time, re: tune. ebxr8380 is saying that he thinks rising rate regs and stock ECUs are a s**t idea. I reckon he's right personally, but alot of people seem to be getting away with the stock ECU and rising rate reg. I would definately go a TIPerformance chip as well though, if I was doing it that way. Depends on your goals! But what you really need to do, is talk to whoever you are going to be getting to tune the car. You might not need a 10:1/12:1 reg, you might be able to use the 36lb/h injectors and use a reg thats not gonna jack the fuel pressure sky high. I don't know, I don't tune them

hmm
im a little confused.. if the fuel pump max pressure id say 75 psi how can the fuel pressure be over 100psi @ 10 psi boost, well where can i get a 10;1 reg?? other than e bay... ive tried a few places around my area and they only have 1:1 or 1.9:1. its really frustrating as these are supposed to be performance shops and they are trying to tell me there is no regs like this |

Fuel pump will do more pressure, but flow rate will drop off as pressure rises.
Thats what can be dangerous about it. Add a tired pump into the mix and theres a chance it will lean out on boost. Check ebay for a reg, malpassi, chinese copies abound on there... whoops just noticed other then ebay LOL Autobarn or something should have been able to get you a malpassi reg or something I would have thought? Snort performance do the OBX regs I think, I'd go one of them personally. But before you go spending money on stuff, decide what you are doing in regards to tune (aftermarket ECU, chipped stock ECU), or you're gonna end up spending money on stuff you don't need.

Full disclosure: I sell chips!
Snort sell FMUs, autobarn should (i thought?). Some places call them a rising rate reg, some an FMU. Im sure there's some on ebay that'll be cheaper & quicker than 2 weeks. Personally I think 12:1 would be too high, id be aiming for 8:1 or so. You either need larger injectors + tune OR an FMU (+ tune ideally) - you wont need both. I am going through a similar decision process for my car. I lean slightly towards using an FMU because I keep stock injectors (easy to replace) and can run the car without a chip in an emergency. But as long as you're getting the right amount of fuel in there, reliably, with a good pump etc, either will give the same power. If you already have the injectors, take the reg you bought back and buy yourself a chip with the money. It will be the simplest way to do things for you, plus you can retard some timing in the chip so you keep off boost performance but retard the timing up top. If you dont want to tune the chip yourself send me a PM and I can customise one for your requirement. Jason

well im thinking stuff this fmu crap i think i need to go aftermarket ecu..
while at the moment ive got a 1;1 reg and today i fitted the walbro pump its not leaning out but ive only pushed it to 7 psi but it now starts pinging at 5 psi..(with timing at tdc) so in regards to aftermarket ecu's. while ive played with the factory ones a little, im a newbe when it come to the aftermaret sector lol... what are your opinions on a reasonably priced ecu.. and can an aftermarket ecu be adapted to plug into the factory loom or do they need to run a seperate loom with different sensors?? |

As we discussed today, i would look at a 6860 from EMS or on a budget a stinger. The 6860 will also run your VCT if you so choose. It uses most of the original sensors, and really is easy to install. Comes with loom which you then splice into your factory loom. I will call you if i am at House of Troy and you can come look at mine, if you so wish.

when will you be over that way next? i was looking at maybe the ems stinger.. im looking for somethimg i can fit without adding extra looms or changing the sensors.. i dont mind splicing or making an adaptor plug to go where the factory ecu is.. after fitting the walbro pump today there is no sign of it leaning out but it still has a huge pinging problem over 5 psi boost.. |
