just dont launch too hard with a locker in there or your gearbox will say bye bye
as for the VG30 that sounds like one off a 300ZX
if so that wont be big enuff..... a turbo for a stock 3L will prolly be a bit small for the motor its off really so imagine that on another litre plus....
not desirable.
impco 225 mixer will work but isnt optimum (its what im running) and a model L converter
also i would suggest running a cooler regardless of boost especially if the turbo isnt the best size as the compressed charge will be HOT..... also with gas you cant just richen it up and run it as rich will detonate as well as lean... so you will need to be dyno tuned or your motor wont last long at all.
cheers

i think it is the one from a 300zx, ur right. if i use a turbo thats too small for the engine will that just mean that it will come on boost quick but not flow well up high?

it means that if it is soo small it could be spoolin when idling... but it would be more like a block in your exhaust and you wont rev hard at all its just not good... sorry but you need a bigger turbo as i suggested the RX7 turbos work (still not great) but a hitachi HT25 will work well...
or as EBXR8380 said run two VG30 turbos... it may seem harder but you only need to make two 3-into-1 collectors instead of a six-into-1 collector
and a 2 into one for the intercooler piping
try to steer clear of smaller turbos unless you are going to use two of them
what else is beeing done to the car...???
cheers

thanks heaps spack... i might have to go down that 2 turbo route because i cant find any decent sized ones for sale, only small ones. nothing else is being done to the car as yet. i just wanna have a play with turbo-ing it and once i sort that out i might do other bits and pieces.

well look a twin turbo setup will give you more torque... (not that you will need it trust me) and will spool earlier (if done right)
the manifold shouldnt be very hard to knock up realy as you only have 3 into 1 collectors which makes things very easy and they will mate up to the turbo flanges much easier
PLUS you get to say you drive a twin turbo falcon!!!
you will also need to run to oil drain lines and feed lines, with the feed lines i am unsure of how you would do this maybe one to a catch tank than an in-tank pump to feed both lines ???
instead of a FMIC you could run water injection (makes for shorter piping and no f**k around with mounting it)
let us know what you think...
cheers

here are a few MSD boost timing masters (make sure you go for a #5462 if you go for one... as they are universal)

Look for a truck wrecker. Go through their turbo pile and work with a local turbo rebuilder who will advise you on the best core to build from. Should be able to do it under $1000 easy for a rebuilt turbo that should do the power.

Even slapping a TA45 on would work with a smaller turbine housing. Research on the net for truck turbos and you could find a virtual drop in for a budget build. A diesel turbo "as is" is never perfect due to it being designed for high boost over flow but this still will make power.

Y piece should work but consider berts input as well... a hitachi HT25 is a truck turbo and will work quite well but yer a Y piece will work
alternatively use water injection (also cheap and effective.)
so what stage are you at now???fabricated/bought anything???
cheers

i havent bought anything yet. so i am "open" to all ideas. i might have to take bert's advice and get a cheap truck turbo because the only "car" ones i can find are from tiny little jap engines like RB20s and SR20s and VG30s..

with the go with a truck turbo? i obviously dont wanna go too big do i coz it'll never spool up. truck turbos should come on boost pretty quick too shouldn't they?

considering the cost of new turbo's nowadays I would personally get a nice GT3540.

truck turbo's pump high boost but don't flow much air, I think most of them would have very large turbine sides compared to comp side.
