Overheating problem with supercharged EB on hot days
by BLWNEB » December 17th, 2009, 1:41 am Hi all Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what do to i believe it may be caused by not having enough cooling on radiator and condensor but other peoples advice would help, i havent got much options i cant fit el fans as there is not enough clearence, it is a capa powerdyne kit, it runs 2X12inch davies craig 130watt fans one as a pusher and other as a puller, one comes on with a/c clutch, and both come on when temp guage is at lower bar, when i turn a/c off it it cools down, when it was 38 in melb the temp went to nearly last bar but i turn off a/c before that which then cools down, and also when i stop then excelerate from lights temp goes up, this only happens around town on the hiway its fine, im stuck on this as i dont have much option. thanks here some pics

dude i see a couple of problems
1 you are missing the lower splash/deflector that all thermo fan setups need to create low pressure behind the radiator to move the hot air away from the radiator the best one is from a NA fairlane 2 is you may need to check your fan polarity most thermos are setup red+ black- for sucking or pulling arrangement you may have to reverse them to get the front fan to push the air not pull it and for good sake invest in a 3 core raditor plz $350 from bursons for natrad one... 2 core on anything other than std car is useless for a more efficent cooling make up a lower defector for in front of the radiator to the lower part of the front bar so the air does not go under the radiator it is forced throught the radiator

i would suggest that the lack of shroud around the fans is the issue, atleast one of the issues.
look at the factory thermos and youll see the entire rad is shrouded |

shrouds arent needed for those fans as they have very high CFM

Yeh all the fans are wired correctly, cant really fit anything else in there, i was thinking to maybe put another fan on the condensor drivers side see if that has any affect, as i cant fit one on radiator side, passenger side

you can fit a 16'' behind the radiator, i speak from experience, big cfm difference.

yer ive fitted a 16 davies craig on the downstream side and a 12 on the condensor side (offset) but i think my 16 is on the opposite side to urs (left to right). i also went the bigger/thicker radiator to though.
i think you would be pushing shyte uphill gettin a 16 in front of the radiator!

Cant put a 16" as not enough room coz of crankshaft pulley

Shrouds help cooling no matter the fans CFM.. No point in sucking air from around radiator .. No matter how high the CFM is...
I would fit a larger radiator and go from there... Check timing ?? Very critical with blown engines, esp in hot conditions... Yes re fit the under tray...

Yeh i know i would be better off with a el fan setup but i cant, so i am very limited, the problem is with the condensor getting to hot causing heat to flow on to radiater, i will try and fit another fan to condensor drivers side maybe a 10inch davies craig slim fan, and see how that goes and wire them for when a/c on both condensor fans on

Yes you'll require a diode between fans and air compressor so a/c doesn't turn ON when fans turn on... I used two in parallel from Jaycar ... About 80c each, some heat shrink to cover soldered joints and your done...
Check around for larger radiators ... They are not as expensive as you think... Save alot of anxiety also....
