Gday,
Im thinking of supercharging my 351C. I want to keep everything below the bonnet so im going to use a centrifical set up, theres heaps of room as there is no P/S or engine fan. Im only after 8PSI, nothing too crazy as the bottom end is new but not forged or anything special. I want to set 5000revs as the max, 99% of the time I dont get above 3500. What is going to give me better low down torque? A powerdyne or a vortech. If I run a vortech can I use an "oil sandwich" (http://www.speco.com.au/acccoolers.html#sandwich) to plumb the supercharger. Who sells off the shelf boost referenced carbys for blow-thru set ups? What is the best way to regulate the boost? Does anyone make brackets for the clevo? Is it worth using an intercooler for 8PSI? Will I have to replace the STD mechanical fuel pump with a boost refferenced electronic model? Thanks, Matt

Just found the carby boxes on CAPA, are these things worth $1100 + $320 for fuel lines? or would it be cheaper to get a new boost referenced carb?
Going out on a limb here but has anyone installed one of these boxes with a MSD ready-to-run electronic dizzy? Any clearance issues?

Personally I would add up the cost of keeping it carby vs fuel injection, injection will make it more refined to drive for a start, running one of those boxes with a Holley in it would piss me off to no end, imagine the fun you would have pulling the lid off for an adjustment or changing jets etc.
You are choosing the wrong supercharger for low down boost, it is all a compromise with what ever blower brand/design you choose but remember a centrifugal blower is designed to produce top boost at top rpm, someone with a lot of experience with the different brands will be able to advise you brand and size, basically boost is regulated via pulley size. For efficiency and lower rpm boost I would choose a screw type(Lysholm, Sprintex, Whipple etc) supercharger but will cost a heap more than a centrifugal blower, also it will be a lot harder on the drive line compared to the centrifugal, one of the many reasons centrifugal blowers are some popular is because it is easier on drive lines, boost is linear so you can somewhat get away with stanard high compression and they are generally easier to drive. OK that is my half asleep rant for the day.

Why is it people love house bricks that flow fuel, I think I have given away more Holleys than I have actually liked.
I suppose after 30 years they finally included backfire resistance in the power valves, but have they improved the gaskets to stop leaks and still be able to pull the bowls and meter block off without having to replace those gaskets every time, remember where the power valve is, it isn't just one size suits all either.

A decent sized Vortech would give you some low end power.. Not like a whipple but from 1800 or so rpmi it'll pull great... Ye with forced induction converting a carb inlet into EFI is quite easy and low end torque is no issue due to forced induction...Some aftermarket inlets have injector bosses on each intake runner, they only need to be drilled [not right through though!!] Then a 90* pipe where carb would fit with flange plates on each end..Then bolt throttle body to that...

Thanks guys, Looks like Im in for some more research . The main reason I wanted centrifugal is to keep everything below the bonnet and carbed. Someone told be today that you can get a throttle body that has injectors sitting below it that bolts on where the carb would usually sit. They said it was the step inbetween carb and injection....are they having me on?

Nope, there is a few brands of injection like that, actually an Aussie company was one of the first "McGee" They also produced one of the first if not the first 4 valve top fuel heads, but both of these were late 80's early 90's. Here you go Holley lover http://www.holley.com/950-22S.asp

That system looks perfect, exactly what I wanted but I didnt think they existed. Has anyone had any experiance with these?
Im thinking that the 700cfm version would suit the engine now but the 900cfm version would better suit when I get around to supercharging??? Would the throttle body injection be any good for a blow thru setup? How do they meter the air?

I haven't had anything to do with the modern Holley throttle body injection but I had with the old trim pot controlled one years ago This new Holley setup without reading up on it and just looking at the picture has a MAP sensor, as long as it can read positive pressure it would probably work, I couldn't see Holley producing something that wouldn't work with positive displacement these days. Best to do some google searching, find a forum in the states that specialise in it, I bet there is at least one and ask some questions, then bring back what you have learnt in there to discuss it here. You might get lucky in ECU & Fuel System Forum, I would think Pete (XR9UTE) has had something to do with them before.

search here for v8 4barrel setup, that would be your easiest conversion, it basically runs as normal efi system with ecu etc, just has throttle body and injectors mounted where the carby was...

Well Iv spent a lot of time downloading the manuals for this Throttlebody Injection and it looks perfect. I can run a 1bar sensor for now and when I upgrade to boost I can get the 2bar sensor (May be able to save money and run a 2bar the whole time).
I think I will get the 700cfm version and not the 900cfm as I only get to 5000revs absolute max and the 2v heads flow 600cfm at 7000 if I remember correctly? So I dont think I will be flowing more than 700cfm at 5000 revs with 6-10PSI (Cam is designed to make power between 1600 and 4800). Also what can the stock pistons take boost wise? My pistons are 20thou over and less than 10000km old but I dont know what they are. Still doing my research and trying to get a price. Thanks for putting me onto it!

stock pistons take a lot of boost generally, not sure bout clevo, but put it this way, its detonation that kills pistons, not boost pressure....
