If you have forced induction don't fit platnum plugs..They tend to hold heat and cause detonation!!!
Just fit one point colder plug for every 100 h.p over std...Just use normal $3.00 plugs..

CAPA always warned me never to use platinums... apparantley the electrode can break as well??? Or is that an old wives tale??
Also assuming standard ignition... reduce gap by .004" for every 50hp added to a V8 (or every 38hp added to a 6 cyl)...

How do you gap spark plugs? I dont know how which is probably not good.

With a set of feeler gauges (i.e. use these to check gap). Gently tap them on hard surface to close gap, use knife/whatever to open. What's the standard gap for your vehicle and what kind of power are you getting from motor?? Standard was bout 170kw wasnt it? 223hp... Standard coilpacks etc??

They have been gapped already by my tuner but I just wanted to know incase I ever needed to change them, I didnt realise it was that simple. I think I have the standard coil packs. |

Yikes!! Based on the above, you'd reduce the gap by about .034" or 0.8mm....
So if standard gap was 1.1mm you'd be running a gap of 0.3mm.... but that sounds a bit extreme. Not sure if a car would idle with that gap... Suggest you ask your tuner what was done... thoughts EBXR8380??? Also would be 3 heat ranges cooler... Do your plugs foul up if not boosting much?

Not yet, they are still fine. But I havent really done many K' since Ive had it.

Yeah CAPA told me to get rid of my iridiums before the install mainly because they electrodes can overheat and break but also because they foul much easier. This is the consensus from most of the US mustang guys too, most of them seem to run 1 or 2 heat ranges cooler (even on the extreme hp engines) and a gap of around .035".

YEP unless runing some kind of cdi close gap to .030...Since fitting MSD I gapped them back to .050..The extra flow blows the spark out with std ignition...Thats with V8's big 4" bore 6's are can run more gap...

ive got au xr6 plugs in mine with .8 gap
tunner said .7 without msd

hrmm interesting,
I run Iridiums in mine and love em. mind you it makes over 450 kw@ wheels ! they don't foul up. I also run a Crane hi 6 booster. But I had CVE tune mine so I know the tune is good !! 
Maybe it is in the tune. Maybe on the next dyno day I will try a conventional set again. maybe that is what's holding me back from 500 kw @ wheels !!

I had iridiums had had a tonne of problems getting the tune right, went back to standard plugs gapped to .7mm for NOS. Although i have been told to get tripple platinums and have been unable to source any for the5.0 windsor in Aus. Can anyone help me out here???
