hi guys and girls just tring to sort out a minor ping issue with the big girl i've narrowed it down to a gap issue
now the plugs that i'm running are ngk tr5ix which is the standard plug for a ba 260 and it was also fitted with these when i got the car standard gap is 0.8,so i,ve reduced that to .75 this evening and ill try that for a few days i'm wondering wether i should go for a slightly colder plug (tr6ix) or fiddle with the gap on these, plugs are in good condition and are bout 4000 k's old does anyone know if these are the standard plug for the boss or are they just for the 260 |

plug gap wont usually cause pinging, but plug heat range can..
has it been dyno tuned?? i would still go a colder plug. mines a 6 cyl but as an eg: factory plugs are a ngk 5 heat range with a 1.1 gap. now with boost im running a ngk 7 heat range with a .7 gap.. better to run a too cold plug then a plug thats to hot, with a too cold plug the worst thing that can happen is the plug may foul up.. where a too hot plug can cause damage |

it has been tuned some time ago but i havent done any mods since that just a bit of maitence,o2's plugs, throt body clean, ect
i'll see how this gap goes but i'm alittle weary of going smaller incase that causes any other probs i'll keep ya posted |

Just a quick update, much better since the gap change
Drop them to .75 and got rid of the pinging and gained a bit more low to mid range power, happy with the result Now just gotta find some traction |

if its pinging, its not due to plug gaps, its due to the tune, especially with forced induction, pinging will cause damage to the motor. get it retuned, its either too lean, or too much timing.

Filing the earth strap down so it covers half the electrode helps it from glowing and detonating..
