I just got my Powerdyne back from Raptor Superchargers after having the performance racing rebuild done to it (higher flowing impellor, better bearings and belt and active air cooling). Out of interested, I got Tim to send to me the old internal belt. This is it:
Now for a unit that is just 2 years old and has done less than 10,000kms, this seems pretty poor to me. Tim reckons the belt wouldn't have lasted much longer. The belt is a Goodyear Hi-Performance Pd 375 5M 05238955 55 06606 Made in the USA. Thing is that this has been with me driving pretty easy with an automatic gearbox - the car still has a new worked engine and manual gearbox to go in. Anyone else had issues with poor internal belt life on Powerdynes? |

What do you expect with belt driven superchargers, you knew full well about powerdynes poor reputation.
Hope you get many trouble free years with the raptor upgrades. |

I've seen powerdynes break belts but not chew out the guts like yours has.

Actually belt drive chargers can have very long belt life, I have just serviced a Raptor V with 100 000km on it, the belt still appears as brand new.
So why has the PD such a bad name? Well having repaired a mountain of these (broken belts, frayed belts, shredded belts and more) I would suggest its mostly to do with how they are set up, some extremely poor setups with backyarders in some cases installing intercooler kits and either no compressor bypass valves, wrong type of compressor bypass valves, severe overspeeding (too small a pulley), use of BOV's and probably much more. Those are the common ones. Some of the belts going into them are product I would never use, tried some of those belt brands in the past and I know for sure they give short life. Raptor has a good name as the kits are configured to give reliable performance, every component is matched and tested to be sure the supercharger can operate reliably. In the case it doesn't and we missed something those units were covered under warranty and the system fault (not supercharger fault) was rectified at the same time
