Just a quick question in regards to the benifits of porting my ef head for when the turbo is fitted.
Is there much of a gain to be had in terms of $$$ for kw increase in power?. My car has done a head so i was thinking while it was off i could get the work done and have the power i want with less boost. I might even use a turbo cam to help things along when its all up and running. What type of head work would suit a turbo?. I was just thinking a light clean up of the ports and cc the chambers to lower compression a bit. I know that it should make an improvement as there is less turbulence and restriction for the air passing through the ports but wondering if its worth the effort and money. Any info and help would be appreciated. |

it's more worth it in terms of power then it is with an NA engine.
and like you said the power you want on less boost. meaning less heat generated in the intake air, less heat the intercooler has to deal with, if you go that far dont use an off the shelf cam, get the head flow figures and have a cam ground to suit. |

Thanks for the info tickford_6 you wouldnt happen to know a ballpark figure on what it would cost to get the chambers sorted and the port work done?.

budget around $800 on top of the usual reco price for a fully assembled head.
that should cover new valves and guides aswell |

Ok that was about where i expected it to be. If i can get a more power productive motor that is a little less stressed it looks like it could be money well spent.

A std EB head can flow 386 rwkw on 20 Lb boost....It has Crow turbo cam, new heavier springs. The head hasn't been off....
Over 350 rwkw yes it will make a difference....

Over 350 rwkw yes it will make a difference.... under 350 it will. it'll use less boost to make the power. |

running say 15 psi to get X kws is cheaper than running 10 psi plus 800 in head work to get the same kws... just a thought, as its not cheap turboeing an old falcon and 800 saved would be might be the difference between ending the project or just finishing it.

Well i'm not looking at anywhere near 350kw at this stage was looking more at 200-220rwkw. Money is a bit of an issue at this stage so ill look into reconditioning my head what thats going to cost me and what it will cost to get the reco done and porting.
EBXR8380 does a std eb head flow any better than a std ef head?. That might be an easy way for me to lower my compression without getting my chambers reshaped. I'll get some prices and make a decision based on how heavy or light my wallet feels on the day. |

If your just after 220wkws then leave the motor stock if its an ok motor, save your money for other parts and tuning.

if money is an issue you should be thinking twice about taking on a project like this.

Yeah i have most of the bits i need already. I'm doing the project in stages and i can fit everything myself and have a mig so i can do all of the exhaust and intercooler pipes. But yes any turbo ford will end up costing $$$ that i am very aware of. |

A ported AU head flows best of all and I believe the EB head is the next best thing. |

X3, minimum of 10K to do it decent and properly, you only get out what you put in, and thats if you do most of the labour yourself
