Hi folks, my first post here. I've also been investigating the above mentioned water/air intercooler. This ebay kit actually comes from frozenboost in America - www.frozenboost.com

If you think about going this path, it may be worth contacting them. They previously quoted me $578 for a full kit, including hoses/fittings, upgrade bosch pump, and freight to Brisbane. Quite good value with the current exchange rate.

Joe

With everything else he has on, I can see that being a LONG way off!

I just wanna get a power adder on my car ...and deal with cooling a tad later.

Yeah me too... I run LPG so cooling is optional at that sort of boost level. Still I like that Tim is thinking ahead. I'd look at cooling with other next-stage options like porting the head and/or BBM, bigger cam etc.

Hello Champ Here is the first photos I have ever released to the world, an active cooledPowerdyne. This is Raptor technology adapted to Powerdyne. You candistribute the images as you like no problem. We can do the job turn aroundin 1 day and cost for all machining and disassembly plus fan unit and wiringis $280. The fan unit has a 40cfm fan with 7000rpm operating speed, it is 12V andpumps a steady stream of cool air into the trans and then forces it outagain to atmosphere. The hosing is 19mm, the fitting is PVC and the holddown clamp billet Aluminium. This dramatically reduces the trans temp and enhances belt lifesignificantly. Enjoy Cheers Tim

I'm definately planning to send my unit off sometime soon to get the bearings, impellor and air cooler done!

I spoke to Tim about the replacement 928 Motorsports impellor shaft and he said not to bother unless there's a reason for replacing the old one.

Hey TWR7cx,

That looks pretty cool!

Just thought you might want to enlighten us with your overall feelings on using a Centri Blower on an I6 ...are you pleased with it overall?

What's the drivability, boost delivery, and power output like?

Do you have a cooler on yet?

Cheers mate.

It's hard to say. First of all I havn't had or driven a 4.0L SOHC I6 with a performance NA rebuild (i.e. JMM Dev 5 etc.), so I don't know what they're like in comparison.
Secondly likewise with a turbo setup. The closest I've been to is a manual stock BA XR6T.

So far I've spent about 7 grand (maybe just under) on the supercharger and associated items (i.e. injectors, brackets, intercooler piping, intercooler, etc.), admitadely it could be done for cheaper, but I'm willing to spend extra for bling and brand names.
yet at this point I'm not happy with it - refer to my other thread about the blower not boosting. However I've found my solution and so for not much more expense I should be at the level I want to be.

I find the PD extremely smooth in it's power delivery (and I mean extremely smooth), which in someways disapoints me, but considering that this is my daily driver it's probably for the better. In comparison to a Nissan 180SX I drove the other day with a bigger turbo and intercooler, my car feels like it's still NA, just smooth increasing delivery or power, were this Nissan had nothing and then a second later just had everything with the back end going wonky. Sure it was extremely fun car to drive, but I'd be s**t scared to give it some gas when going around a corner etc, were as in the wagon, there's a clear point from were your just giving it a bit more in a corner and asking it to put the back out.

The other thing is that I've still got the slush box - which I can't decide about. On the one hand I don't mind driving an auto at all. A mate has an XH XR6 with exhaust and extractors and T5 5 speed manual. Comparing his car to mine, his has more pull off the line, pushes you back into your seat harder, mine has more top end but and smoother take off. I'm hoping that with more boost and a 3000rpm stall converter this can change. Otherwise I will start saving for a T56 conversion - the manual would give more power to the wheels and the extra gears and change in ratios should give more acceleration.

It's hard for me to say whether this was the right choice or not, as I don't have any experience with the other options, and my car is a work in progress, so things can change dramatically in the next few months. But at the end of the day, I want soemthing that's nice to just drive around in and cruise, got the power as and when I want/need it, and will happily tow my boat, take me and my mates to the beach and I can drive on a long trip up the coast etc - if I just wanted something that could go fast I'd have bought a Skyline.

Look at it this way; you've spent a bit of cash already, but it is hardly "maxed out". You have a pretty good base to build on.

More gear and converter will make the car feel a bit more of an "animal" (what diff ratio are you running at the moment?).

And you know that for less than $1k, you can upgrade your blower to support a pretty ridiculous amount of power.

Kind of disappointing that you are getting so much pressure drop across the PWR intercooler though...?

Yeah, that's my opinion to.
I'm runnign the stocko EF XR6 wagon diff - 3.45LSD.
The entire reason I forked out the extra for a PWR cooler (2 to 3 times more expensive than the coolers on the bay) was that I thought it would be a better design. I can't say either way weather or not it is as I havn't tested an alternative, but I can say I'm disapointed in it. It might have been that I just went to big though.

I was thinking about it today (in relation to future mods), I estimate that the 2.5" pulley should be 12psi. Plus 20% with the 928 Motorsports impellor is over 14psi. If I build a more efficent cooling system and upgraded my fuel system to handle the extra boost, I should be able to get 14psi into the engine. I was thinking perhaps a water to air cooler over where the battery used to be or perhaps a barrel one on the passenger side but I don't know if that'd fit.
Anyways, that's for the future, for now I want to get to 9psi and I've got a couple other things sitting around to get done.

Thanks for the honesty mate.

I think with the pulley & blower upgrade, water-air cooler, and a manual conversion, you'll be liking it a lot more.

I'm hoping that my DEV 5 will allow me to get more power at the 9 psi approx boost of the Raptor V ...and I'm still deciding on whether to go a small air-air FMIC or water-air cooler.

The Raptor kit comes complete with XR6 Turbo injectors (dunno what lb they are) ...so if need be, I will upgrade my fuel pump & regulator when I get the car retuned.

My DEV 5 cam already has an awesome high-end powerband ...and according to Tim, my car will still drive and behave as normal ...but with a big power multiplication factor added in overall, especially when the boot is sunk in.

My Auto BA XR6T = smooth turbo power
PYROAY EL XR6T = slug off the line (especially with the extra 300kg's of audio) ...then erratic, out-of-control heavy rocket ship.

I want my pride & joy DEVEL XR6 to be somewhere in-between.

"I was thinking perhaps a water to air cooler over where the battery used to be or perhaps a barrel one on the passenger side but I don't know if that'd fit. "

In searching around the net previously, I found the PWR barrel coolers are not well regarded. Apparently don't cool very efficiently. Could try www.frozenboost.com for full kits.

I thought they were only 24lb, but according to http://www.injectorsonline.com/indivprod.php?c=1 the 295cc or 29lb Bosch injectors:
Quote:
are the standard ones for a BA Falcon 6 cyl and the BA Turbo. The Bosch number is 0 280 156 124. They have a unique 'twin' spray pattern and are very hard to recondition. If they start leaking you need to replace them.
