Thanks TROYMAN. Do you have a pic of that intake piece off the car? Looks very well made. Inclusions like that are what make those kits so easy to bolt on, no problems to solve.

Dazzle, the tight radius pipe from ARE would be great, but expensive if I can't weld at that level! No doubt would be the best option.

What do you guys think about stepping up from 3.5 to 4 inch in the pre-supercharger intake pipework....any advantage to this at all? Or extra work/cost unnecessarily?

Joe

If you could get the bits. Cut, and mark positions(orientation) of the bends, send 'em to me and i'll weld it and send it back.....just a thought....pity you dont live in Sydney, prolly only bout an hour job. You should be able to get it done at ARE anyway, should be under a $100......express post isnt even that expensive.....lol

Cheers

Daz

Joe i would go 4 inch pre impellor if you can do it.
It'll pull more air,i've talked with Tim from Raptor and when they upgraded the BA/F kit from 3 to 3 1/2 pipe and air filter they got gains at the wheels.Less latent heat at the impellor as it does it easier as well.
I'm waiting on a 3.5 from Tim's guy when he has the time but they are flat out at the mo.
Won't water/meth injection pre impellor pit the blades?I know it seals the housing and makes more boost and cooler boost though.

Cheers Daz - I'll keep your welding offer in mind for sure.

Badcooky, no the water doesn't pit the impeller....at least not on a centri supercharger. Maybe different on a hotter turbo? Everyone says it does, but mine has recieved water injection pre-impeller every week since '02, and I sold the previous impeller in perfect condition when I upgraded! The new impeller is fine too.
Apparently the main thing is that its atomised well (although mine wasn't til this year!).

http://www.waterinjection.info/ has heaps of info for everything to do with WI. Different combos work better on different cars, but many have found a small nozzle pre-turbo/SC + a larger nozzle after the intercooler (or before throttle body) works best.

Joe

If theres enough of a restriction in the intake they will suck in.
Tristan/BLKPHN had it happen with his F6 and the plazmaman intake when the air filter was apparently a restriction when he first got it tuned.

Joe, I think the 4" is only going to be beneficial if the 3.5" is a restriction, which I can't see it being?
The only way to be sure I guess would be to fit a magnehelic gauge or something, or do the water tube thing which autospeed has covered.
That would also answer you worries about the silicon bend being sucked in, if you've alot of vacuum in the intake it could be an issue.

I've searched for 'vortech' on autospeed, and there's a heap of vortech powered cars reviewed. They often comment that the vortech setup was fitted without issue, other than the pre-SC elbow getting sucked in, which they went on to modify (but no details of this are given). This is what's led to my questions re: intake bends/elbows.

Steady, I'll have to read the water tube test on autospeed again.

Cheers, Joe.

Yeah the 'water tube' vac testing stuff will be under that 'negative boost' series of articles.
It's a good way to get a very sensitive vacuum reading without going out and buying a gauge.
