Hey Guys..
just wonder what sort of power the stock fuel pump would be able to handle? i'm looking at doing a basic turbo setup on my EA running around 5 or 6 psi... just wondering if the standard fuel system would be able to handle this? if not.. would should i look at upgrading.. trying to keep initial costs as low as possible.. then building on it... selling my second car to fund this... manifold is taken care of.. just need turbo.. oil lines.. and cooler piping.. hoping to have around 1500 to spend.. which i think the things i just listed will take most of... so just wanting to know what other things i might need.. particularly for fuel delivery... |

the stock pump should handle 180rwkw max.
if ur only going to run 5-6psi and u want to do it cheap just buy a large rising rate reg 2:1 or larger. the vortec 12.1 reg is the best way to go, then u wont have to run high fuel pressure at idle and off boost. even if ur not going to make over 180rwkw i would still change the pump, just buy a walbro 500hp intank pump off ebay for under $200. u will need more than $1500

yeah.. i know i'm gunna need more then that... depends how much the turbo will cost.. and i got a mate who will do my piping.. so hoping to save even more there... 1500 is what i hope to get for the car i'm selling.. plus whatever money i save aswell.. |

I wouldn't bother with the stock pump, it'll probably just end up dying on you when you least expect it, seen it happen lots of times before :S
I bought a walbro pump for $155 delivered to my house, they're well worth it IMO.

cool thanks again.. i wiill factor that into my calculations... and i've seen what can happen to a fuel starved motor.. so i'll make sure i upgrade the fuel pump

it really isnt worth messing around with the stock fuel systems when running boost. Save the extra and do it right in the first place and itl save you alot of hassles down the track. With your current budget of $1500 you will probably just get the turbo and piping, oil lines are about $110 per meter and $25 per end from enzed. Then you have to look at ignition, you stock map sensor will start having a spasm at about 6psi, so you will be looking at a better ecu there. It can be done on the cheap but its a huge risk, especially if its gonna be your daily driver. Just my 2c

if ur not going to runn more than 6psi with satandard ecu and reg u wont have a problem, but be sure to stick it on the dyno and check the AFR.
the standard map sensor will read upto 12psi...

yeah.. i would have put it on a dyno to check AFR..
won't be doing it now.. sale of my other car fell thru.. but just to let ya's know.. turbo was costing me 450.. got a cooler already.. piping was costing me parts.. but oil lines weren't gunna be cheap... would have been able to stick to 1500-2000... anywayz.. can't do it now.. unless i sell my other car...
