i know this may have been answerd somewhere along the line, but, i'm not reading through how ever many post are here.
My question is, how much can a stock EF i6 take? i own a GLi that i'm doing up and would like to put a turbo on the side, but do i really need to rebuild it? i'm not a thrash around driver get up it here and there, so how long would it last, if the power was only 220-240kw?

depends how many k's it's done but at a guess 8 to 10 month's maybe on 6 to 9 psi ......i would probly run on 6 psi as a starting point

my advice would be to install a aftermarket ecu and run the f**k really rich.....don't let it lean out or it will go BANG !!!

let us know how ya get on

if tuned right they will last for eva. ive done ova 20,000kms in my el. 10,000 of that was at 6-8psi on standard ecu. and the other 10,000 of it has been at 13psi with the autronic which has never been tuned properly. its making aprox 240-260rwkw and is a every day driver. it often sees the limiter. the engine is just starting to drop comp a little. im on my 2nd auto trans and 3rd diff.

so, if i have an EF thats done, say 240 000km, it's touch and go?
i don't want the boost too high, i just put a 5 speed in it and it goes
quite hard now, so i only want a touch more power just to top it off.
i'm looking at putting an XR8 diff in it, strut braces, sway bars etc. The exterior is done except a body kit, just want to complete the job, but at the right price.

Your gearbox will bust before your engine will. On a good tune that is.

Fit turbo etc to wreckers engine the drop the whole lot in..Even better buy an A.U engine and use your engines inlet, ignition etc.. AU engines [a little more with auto] are around $600 with low kls.... These engines take 300 rwkw all day with good tune... BTW the timing is just as important as fuel delivery and 11.7 afr is about right...With 12 Lb on our engine we are runing 18* total advance at peak torque... 12 /15 Lb is easy obtainable with 9.2 compression which is what A.U's run.. Its very streetable and extremely throttle responsive...Especially with T04z - .84 A.R turbo....

Yeh coz running it real rich is good for engine life too!!!
Better to PROPERLY match the AF ratio not guess it!
