Your best to get forged pistons instead of the acl ones to be safe on high boost.
If the turbo noise is loud you most likely have an air leak somewhere between turbo and throttle body... if so that would be keeping boost down. With no wastegate the turbo should spool to its max, whatever that might be. I use a Wolf 3D version 3, have had it for 5 or so years now, a bit old tech by todays standards but does the basics for a street car I bought my 550cc injectors used so I dont know the new currant prices... contact Joe at Crescent Motorsport for a good price on them... 9600 6229... |

So you dont think ACL pistons can handle boost, say up to 10 to 15 psi.
What have you done so far to strengthen your internals and do they seem strong enough. Oh ok, so would 30Lb injectors be equivalent to 550cc ones. Can you put another 1 or 2 injectors behind the throttle body, or is that a lost cause. What are good ecu's on the markets these days, i have heard of a few using the new Wolf 3D V4 or is there others with better value for money. What do you think of the EMS8860 i think it is. I have no idea which 1 to go for. Thanx guys! |

Ive heard the ACL's are good, but really, for a few hundred $ extra you can go to forged pistons which will cope with more boost/abuse.
550cc is around 50 to 55lb... 30lb is around the 300cc mark which is way way too small. Yep, and extra injector or two in the TB/manifold does work, done it myself many moons ago, but its a rough way of adding more fuel, plus you need a microfueler type controller to run the extra injector(s). You can also you a pressure switch to turn it on/off... works but again, not the best way. Ecu choice... find a tuner/mechanic you like/trust and use the ecu that he recomends as there's more chance you will end up with the best tune for your motor. Speak to Jo from Crescent motorsport, he is an EMS dealer and knows them well, also pretty good at tuning Wolf too My motors dead stock 200ooo kays, has been handling 10psi no dramas for awhile now with the occasional 16 to 20 psi squirt... but keep it at 10 psi or under if you want to preserve your (stock) motor |

Well dats good to know a stock motor can handle some punishment.
Once i have rebuilt the my motor and have a programmable ecu along with bigger injectors and a bit more boost im sure the car will be in the 12's which is where i will leaving the car. I would have spent no more than $800 on the set up. Includes: Sard Adjustable Fuel Reg Bosch 040 Motorsport Pump Intercooler Clamps and Piping Materials for Tuned Length Manifold, Down Pipe and Intercooler piping which i made up. The rest i had in workshop already: Turbo, intercooler, BOV, oil lines etc. I am happy to answer any other Q's about the setup and also able to make manifolds and down pipes for anyone interested. |

Yeah i have pics of the whole setup, i just do not know how to post them up.
Do you use the attacthment field below the post reply field. I used necessary materials e.g pipe and flat bar and using a Plasma, Mig, Radial Drill, Linisher and other tools i made the manifold. Once it was finished, i lightly sand blasted it and coated it with a silver 800 degree celcius paint, which works work a treat. |

I got my the XR Dyno'd yesterday.
The car still been running the same with no mods apart from a full 3" exhaust which allowed it to boost to 7psi. It pulled 260 HP at the wheels and 1000 Lb of torque. Boost still only comes on 2500rpm. |

thats not to bad for wat u got. at work i seen a turbo off a 11l truck and it had a 1.34a/r turbine housing with 80mm wheel. .55a/r comp housing with a 66mm wheel.

What dyno?

It was a dyno dynamics in my area.
That similar to my turbo, comp housing is 3 times smaller than the turbine housing. |
