Hey guys,
I have finally got my turbo setup running on EBII XR6.
I am running a Schwitzer turbo from a 10L truck on tuned length manifold i made myself. It has a 3" down pipe running into a standard cat and standard ford 2 1/4" exhaust. There is no wastegate e.g. completely shut, and i have managed to get 4-5psi at 3200rpm.

I have fitted a Bosch 040 fuel pump and Sard adjustable fuel regulator to bump up the fuel pressure to around 5o psi through the fuel rail which gives air/fuel ratios of 13.8 when pulling hard and 14.7 at cruise. Apart from those mods the rest of the motor is completely stock and has clocked over 250,000kms.

I ran it at Eastern Creek last night and ran a 13.7 passing 99 miles/hour.
I have 245/60/15 Yokahama's on the rear and broke traction through first and second after dropping 15 psi out of the tyres.

I am wandering if a 3 1/2" will help the turbo spool up quicker and what mufffelr should be used under it. I am hoping that it will coz i dont really want to change the turbo as yet as it whistles unbelievably loud.

Also what do you recommend for aftermarket pistons and conrods as i will be rebuilding the motor shortly to handle the punishment. Also what do you do to drop the compression if necessary. I will be porting and polishing the head and wanting to strengthen most of the motor.

If you would like to see pics of the setup, just let me know how to post them as i do not know how.

Yeah its pretty big.
Im sure what truck it is off, i just had it sitting in the shed. it weighs in around easy 10-12 kgs. It has a 4 1/2" exhaust outlet and a standard oil return line of 1" I.D.

Has anyone rebuilt a 4L wit the aftermarket and stronger and recommend any particular brand or parts of the motor to focus on as will doing the rebuild shortly.

Not when you consider a diesel engine will only spin up to 2500rpm on average.

acl(upto 350rwkw) arias, je, or hypatec pistons. acl make a piston to sute a e series I6 not sure about the others. u may need to get a custom piston made. can use standard rods that have been shotpeaind(unsure how spelt) or ba xr6t ones will fit but will need a custom piston. or u can get them custom made

oh ok, any idea on what they are worth and where to get em.
What is Shot Peening and who does it.

What hp and boost will standard rods hold even with new pistons.
Thanx for the info!

a hole acl kit that come with gaskets, pistons, rings and bearings would cost around $800. but the other brands are around 1000+ for pistons and 1000+ for rods. any performance shop will oder them in. shot peening gives the surface of the component a tough skin and tends to remove any stress points on the surface that could possibly be a crack starter. im not sure wat hp starndard rods will hold but not many ppl change them

www.par-engineering.com will make some strong rods for you...
You need compression down to 8.5 to 1..
With that compression std or ACL pistons will take up to 350 rwkw with good tune...

I have got some later pics but do not how to post them.
If you let me know i will post them for you.

What is the best way to get the comp down to that ration and also what head gaskets are you using for turbo setups.

Your best off sticking with the stock motor until you have the set up fully sorted and tuned. Get some bigger 500cc or bigger injectors and a programable ecu, dont waste your time with the stock ecu/injectors. You wouldnt want to build up the new motor only to kill it with a bad tune, but Im sure you've allready sussed out the ecu situtation.

Have you got any specs on that turbo? 4psi with no wastegate is low for a car style turbo, so maybe yours needs heaps more air to spool it. Whens it getting on boost?

Looks good so far

I have no specs at all about the turbo. It doesnt have much written on it, no A/F ratios or anything.
I know it is a Schwitzer and it has a few serial numbers on the plate.
Boost comes in around 3000 rpm approx. It whistles really loud only producing 4 - 5 psi.
Do you think a 3" exhaustw ill help it spool earlier and harder?
If not i think ill be going for different one (a bit smaller) and making up a new manifold.

I priced an ACL race series rebuild kit from my local AutoOne and they reckon $890. That was the only price i got and i think its bit dear so i think ill doing some more pricing around.
What are the 500cc worth and is there any particular brand to go after.
What computer are you running in yours CHEF? What are its capabilities.
