Isn't the AU dryer mounted near the firewall? Would it be possible to get the AU pipes and use them instead?

Looked inside the boss' car a few times, and I think its near the TX valve in the AUs

I'm an EF man so i can't remember :P

When the system is vac-pumped it removes all the moisture out of the system. Moisture is bad because it will form as ice in the TX valve and/or the evaporator core. I don't know how you can "boil off" moisture in a sealed system.

how do you think it removes the moisture????

what happens to water even at room temp when you apply a strong enough vaccumn to it?? it turns into a gas.

thats what happens in the a/c system, once its a gas it just gets sucked out with the air.

oh, BTW, the au system isnt a tx valve system, it is an orifice tube system, meaning, that canister on an au isnt actually a receiver drier, its an accumulator.

i dont have my car at home now, so ill have to wait til i get to work tomorrow to get a picture of my setup.

Today I had another look at it and there is space to fit it to the far right (loking at the radiator from the front) just behind the edge of the headlight, this will give me enough room to properly mount the intercooler.

can I cut the pipes shorter and use rubber hose with stainless steel ring clamps to join the pipe back together, if not then what about silicon, the joining hose would only be about 4cm's in length and yes I do realise that I will have to get the system re-gassed and also have the gas removed before I do this.

or maybe I could just get a larger sized pipe and use epoxy to glue the cut pipes together inside the larger pipe, dodgy?

:? which way? or all of them? I dont see it as being dodgy if i do it that way properly, I might slip the pipe over and silver solder it, just that clearance is an issue

sounds like a sure way to lose an eyeball :)

I think the pipes hold way to much pressure. Would need to be braised together at least.

Yeah dooooont play with the air con pipes. Pull it all off and once your turbo is up and running, go to an aircon shop and have them make new lines... or get lines off another car that will fit

Even if i had the system evacuated? :?

If it was to get the gas removed first , then drill a hole in part of the section to be cut out just to make sure all the gas is removed I cant see the problem.
And I ALWAYS wear safty gear when working

I think I might talk to an air con place about it, see how much it would cost to get new lines made up. If i can move this out of the way then i have 120mm more room which means i wont have to cut the front bumper and I will be able to seal the intercooler up against the radiator for more efficient cooling.

Will post up more when ive done something

I'm not sure why you have to move it. What model car have you got??
I'm running a 600x300x75 intercooler in my EF with the Receiver-Dryer in the original location, and it all fits with no problems
If I was you I'd just leave it where it is.

Just bend the bracket a bit and reverse it, there's loads of room there. I managed to fit 3 oil coolers in there as well.

thanks for the pics

have you sealed the intercooler from behind so that air doesnt flow around it?
Didnt you cut a brock bar so that you could fit a cooler in there?
