Hi guys,
Have been doing a little reading and heard that there are some turbo failures associated with a blocked turbo oil feed line? Apparently this is because its filtered and the filter blocks due fords insistance on 15000k services. Is this true? How often must the line be replaced? is the filter only replaced or is it in-built? any info would be great thanks |

yes its true however there are 2 issues we have noticed which will cause the turbocharger to fail
in most cases its either the oil filter ( at the base of the turbo oil feed line/engine ) is blocked due to poor service or incorrect oil used for the application the other is the feed line itself is made of metal and runs directly above the exhaust manifolds , stop/start and heat cycling can cause the oil to bake inside the line again creating blockage and turbo failure i suggest replacement s/steel braided teflon oil feed line and external filter which will help preserve turbo life

Using fully synthetic oil will go a long way to preventing the feed line from being blocked as well.

thanks for the replies. so there is no filter in the line? it just blocks due heat? or is there actually a filter in the drain from the turbo back to the sump?
Is ford the only place that sells these? are they expensive? whats the recommended service interval? the car followed the std ford services until 80,000ks when we bought it. it now gets full synthetic 10w40 every 5000ks so it shouldnt get any worse hopefully |

TUF250 wrote: Is ford the only place that sells these? are they expensive? whats the recommended service interval? Yes. About $80 I've heard. There is none, its in there for life. Although most engine places and tuners will tell you to remove the filter and run without it. See http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=32461 |

The filter is in the bango bolt under the inlet manifold on the turbo oil supply line.
I'd still get under there and at least pull it out and clean it, now your using decent oil but before it wasn't.

Either Mobil 1 0W40... Or Castrol Edge 10W60.
At the moment its the Mobil 1. Although alot of guys swear by the Nulon 10W/40 stuff, but mainly because of the price. |

Hi folks,
Was able to take that banjo bolt off of the block today. The banjo bolt was empty inside and I could not find any sign of a filter inside the t piece connected to the block?? Mine is a BF II 2006, did ford remove these by my series? Previous owner is a friend and there is no way he removed it, not mechanically minded enough, car was serviced at ford specified intervals when he owned it? can someone describe what the filter looks like and exactly where it is in that assembly? Just want to make sure I havnt missed it Cheers Jason |

Are you 100% sure the filter wasn't in there? As in there was no circlip on the end of the bolt or anything. And I assume you were looking for that barrel type filter that slides into the bolt?
The filter is a barrel shape, about 3/4 the length of the bolt and is "hollow" down the centre. Filter itself is like a gauze. There is a pic of it on post #130 of the XR6T thread. Did Ford put a new turbo on the car? Or has he had it at a mechanic that would have cause to remove the line? They are all supposed to have filters in there. It may just be Ford forgot to install it. That wouldn't be surprising at all. |
