ok, one thing we all know, is that the two most powerful turbo sohc 4l's in the country have cast pistons and std (prepped) rods... so thats it, who's possibly gonna need anything more? theres proof of there strength
as for not liking i-beams, whats the basis to your argument of them being no good?

never said they are no good. but for the $1400 you pay for them it's just not worth the money.

why not? do you think they arent as strong as an equivalent h beam??
a few of the tech articles on rods ive seen say that theres basically nothing between them, can be just as strong as one another..?

it depends on the type of I beam and how much metal is in them.
some aftermarket I-beam are no stronger the our stock ones. you could get a true billet wich is fine. but they are not as strong around the big end because the grain structure doesn't flow around the opening like it does in a forged rod. or a machined forged rod. the basic shape is produced with the forging process to get good grain flow around the big and small end opening. then the final shape is machined wich removes and inclusions and has every rod the same shape. then there are so many variations on each type it can be hard to keep track of them all, you can't just say I-beam vs: H-beam just remember not every I-beam or H-beam from every maker is going to be the same or suited to your intended use. wich is why in my first i post i said to go with the ATOMIC gear. it's purpose made and is proven to work. |

LOL, exactly, but you did say you wouldnt waste your money on i-beams, youd buy h-beams... kinda a contradiction, you were comparing beam shape, not quality or manfacturing process

JMM did over 400rwkw on preped EF rods. are you done yet?? |

as far as i have read no-one has still answered the original question yet ? ? ?
what pistons to use = make and part number for referance ......... .......

drop straight in with about 8 to 9 thou deck hieght with a 12cc dish. will will have to have new pockets cut for the exhaust valve first reply to the thread! pretty simple i though, no need for part numbers it's the only one they do. and use the atomic skinny rods. call atomic tell them what you're building and they will help you out. |

The 4.6 mod motor rods come close to 4.0 specs.. So I guess Eage or Scat have them.. The journal will need to be underszed and custom pistons du to pin height.. Trouble is $$$ on custom & maching adds up....
In any case good hypo pistons last with good tune....

Ef and onwards used a hypereutectic piston. Was a cast piston untill ED. Then Ford used a hypereutectic piston from then on.

hypereutectic pistons ARE cast pistons |

lol, yea, hypereutectic just refers to a piston with a high silicone content 11% or so

I'm using ACL Race Series Pistons (which i a had dished to lower compression) and Standard Ford Rods which i had polished up and Standard Rod Bolts. Seems to handle 300+rwkw no problems.
