i would reccomend using the au engine, they come factory fitted with a main cap girdle, and the cast alloy sump also ties in with this, they have the most refined crankshaft balance. And as others said, have the long rods std, the heads have the best option for port work aswell, they have the smaller valve stems and guides.

theres a guy, 24cit, on ffau that has a set of forged ross pistons, and argo rods in his ef. Ill have to ask if the argo's are std length or not. this combo cost him like $3800

According to my Gregorys Au Workshop manual, Au motors have teflon coated piston skirts... Just another useless fact.
BTW Ross make custom forged pistons. I remember a Turbo TE cortina in ZOOM a while back that had stock 5.88" rods and Ross Forgies. I just bought myself a ED Ghia with a blown head gasket for nicks. Planning to bolt in my AU motor, an undecided Crow cam and a snail to help the barge along. I did buy the Au motor to bolt into my EF, but gave up on that idea when I took a look at what had to be done to the sump/crossmember to fit it in. Only problem with the AU motor is the relatively high compression ratio (9.35-9.65). Maybe pull the head and have the chambers opened up a bit along with a bit of port work...

Could we use the Atomic Performance Rods???
Product no: #306200 (for BA xr6t) Critical Dimensions Centre to centre length: 6.060" Big end width: .991" Big end finished diameter: 2.2394" Small end finished diameter: .8665" And if we did use them would we be best to use a set of AU ACL pistons???? **this is for a EF XR6 engine btw**

also if we are getting ACL pistons what ones would i need????
-Ford 4.0L BA Turbo (Barra 240T)Forged Pistons - 6MKRY9710 -Ford 4.0L EF-EL Cast Pistons - 6MKR9400EF **note im looking at running around 600hp at the flywheel**

you need to use au> pistons, either dished forged au items, or get forged ba ones and have the two valve reliefs cut into them.
the reason is that au-ba-bf have loneger rods than e-series, therefore you need the pistons with the higher pin height

This may seem like a dumb question and probably is but i have to ask it....
The ef motor is a good starting point for a turbo motor is this also true of the el's motors (i know the motors are essentially the same motor wondering if there is any major differences that would affect)?? If not what else would u have to change??? Thanks |

Ok. I'm gathering the parts for my EF engine and have been wading through fact, figures and dimensions. I have measured the bores in my EF block and they measure 92.30mm.
Can anyone confirm the size of a stock EA and EF piston? By the dimensions I've got you should be able to get away using 0.5mm over EB dishtop ACL pistons in a stock bore EF block with a skim and power hone. Mine might be a bit far gone but we'll see. These have an 11cc dish (vs 5cc EF) and would be great for keeping the comp down. A few mods to the combustion chambers of the EF head should see compression at a suitable level for forced induction. Opinions? Chris |

exactly. all custom. ie: no off the shelf piston for the short rod.
would have been hell cheaper to buy the BA gear and use that |

but i guess the BA gear wasnt as commonly available two years ago??
off the shelf or not, he hasnt used 6in rods

i must be missing your point here.
i said no one make them for the short rod. and you counter that be telling me some had a custom piston made? you can get anything custom with enough money (as your friend knows$$$$) hell with enough money you could the entire engine remade with stronger better parts. but no one makes an off the shelf forged piston for the short rod. |

my point was aimed at that
