-Ford 4.0L BA Turbo (Barra 240T)Forged Pistons - 6MKRY9710
-Ford 4.0L EF-EL Cast Pistons - 6MKR9400EF

**note im looking at running around 600hp at the flywheel**

BA Turbos don't have forgies from the factory... So is this the Ford part no. or an Aftermarket part no.?

for 600hp at the motor i would not use the BA turbo pistons or rods.

Rods are good for 300rwkw any more and you should go i or h beam fordged rods.

the ACL forged are made by mahle pistons. (ACL mahle same people these days) and for that much power you want to use the forged ones. and a suitable BA length rod to go with it

sorry to Re start the thread,
but i have gathered that standard rods polished and nitrate treated are plenty for a 300rwkw setup, but what are they worth to get to this stage, included boring out for the bigger arp bolts.
and i assume these are out of an eb-ed 4.0l motor?
also with the pistons, ihave read a series of names and prices, but without using BA pistons, how would i bring my compressions ratio to atleast 8.6:1? basically, with a seteel au thicker gasket and what pistons?
keeping in mind it only has to support a max of 300rwkw.
Also, Ebs 4l, i have looked for ages and i dont know what internals you are using rod/piston wise for such a low comp ration, but i did here you mention the ACL race series...but there 9.6:1 arent they? if it is these you are using, how did you get your comp. so low?

cheers,
Moody

all u need is the 3.9 acl race pistons with the 11cc dish, the au gasket isnt thik, it actully thiner than the el one. but u still should use it. with the 11cc dished pistons and a none 3.9 head + au gasket u should be around the compression ratio u want, might need a little cc'ing of the combustion chamber.

The motor i was rebuilding is an ED 4.0L
so are you saying i should keep the 3.9 head?

you will think my combo is dodgy, but here goes..

i have acl race 4l pistons. yes 9.6:1 std. (long story but already were fitted) should use 3.9 race pistons

std rods with resized ends, crack tested, weight matched, still with original factory rod bolts

and i have taken 2cc out my chambers

and i have used a decomp plate with an au gasket on either side

ended up at roughly 8.4:1, currently holding 17psi boost, will see about 350rwkw from it

u wont need the decomp plate with the 3.9 pistons and 4l head

u will just need, 3.9 11cc pistons, and a none 3.9(ea) head and 1 au head gasket.

no need to use 3.9 head..

the 4l is better, and starts out with a better chamber, the 3.9 head has the large swirl ridge that needs removing anyway

if i had 3.9 pistons, then i wouldnt have used a decomp plate

there is 7cc piston dish difference between 3.9 and 4l race pistons

the added benefit, is getting 3.9 pistons in +0.040" 1mm, is you only need to bore the 4l block about 0.004" or so, from memory.... something like that anyway
