hey all
just wondering - with a s/c intake, would it be ok to run from the charger pretty much a straight pipe up to the scoop on an XR bonnet? i have the sequential scoop for the passenger side, so it would be recieving direct airflow - or would it be best down in the brake duct vent?

It shouldn't overly matter which way you do it.
As by the sounds of it, the filter would be in an airbox, or not? It may cop a lot more hot air off the engine if its not shielded from the engine. |

Can draw from above the bonnet no worries... but i dont see how you're going to get a good filter into that system.
The location behind the bumper works well because you can comfortably fit a pod filter down there.

i guess i'll just have to see how space works once the s/c goes in - it won't be in an airbox, as the s/c sits where the box would be, but i was trying to keep the pipe length & turns to a minimum rather than snaking it through to the bumper

Don't use solid pipe from the POD to the charger. I have some bendable "hose" (for lack of a better word) for mine.
Do you remember what mine looks like (sitting in the hole in the bumper)? If not, I can show you some time to get some ideas. Where did the previous guy have it?

Thats what I have.
That should have said "Don't bother with solid pipe". Sorry. There is no real reason for not using solid pipe (unless you want a bit more bling). More that it isn't required. It won't be any disadvantage to use the bendable stuff. Just makes life a bit easier when it comes to plumbing.

was thinking solid pipe so as to keep the pod upright in the scoop, without having to create & bolt upa bracket, plus it would only be minimal distance anyways, no more than 30cm at most i'd imagine

If you were going to the seq scoop, yeah, that makes sense. You will also draw hot air from in the engine bay as well if it isn't boxed off.
Where will your charger sit in relation to the scoop? I'm pretty sure mine (off the top of my head) sits right under the scoop so there isn't room there for me. If you are going down to the brake duct, just use the bendable sh*t you got with it.

There is a good reason not to use solid pipe IMO.
Chances are, you're going to have the filter mounted to the body/chassis/engine bay and not mounted to the engine. The engine moves around under its own torque. The supercharger is bolted to the engine and moves with it. If the supercharger has a solid connection to the filter (which is mounted to the body/chassis/engine bay), then there's nothing to flex/give between .

Bit late seeing this thread, but I've found with the right size K&N pod there's enough room to fit the pod between the powerdyne and passenger side gaurd going towards the headlight. I'll put a picture up of mine once I've got all the piping back in place (removed to do the fuel rail ATM).
