does the superchargers of old 2L supras fit onto falcons. i heard thay can be easily modified to fit onto the air con belt to create about 4psi boost.

haven't heard of it being done..
what car is it going on? assume its pre 1995 the extra load on the belt may damage to compressor for the aircon, you may want to look at putting it on a belt of a componet that is cheeper to replace if it breaks.

A bit small for a 4L motor though, and if you do a bit more work to the motor they can actually end up strangling it.

Yeah heard of one being done on an XF 4.1L. Only produced 2psi but was probably a restriction at some points though. They also tried a twin setup which did produce a bit more boost but still not enough.

If it had 4psi on the 2L, in theory it'll give ya 2psi on the 4L.
Is it worth it? |

with my mates old rolla we just worked out different pulley sizes and gave it around 12psi boost... those sc are running that on heaps of cars...
does that mean you could work out pulley sizes to give you 12psi (which would turn out around 6 on a ef engine)? if this works then it would be a cheap power increase because they are only around $300 then mounting etc... |

Yeah your theory is spot on. But need to evaluate the limitations of the charger. Basically you can only overdrive them to a certain point, the bearings are only capable of certain RPM (eg my powerdyne is limited to 39,000 internal rpm, i forget the calculation - its a function of RPM and pulley sizes). Do these chargers have any external lubrication or are they sealed units?

The faster you drive the bastard, the hotter it's going to get too, which would neccitate intercooling, and then a pressure drop - taking you back to square one.
I wouldn't really ask or expect much from one of these on a Falcon. |

not sure if they are a sealed unit, they have a oil tank thingo which has a dipstick etc...
it probably isnt worth mucking around with but it would be fun... my mate and i are putting one on his subaru liberty wagon cause he is towing alot... low boost and hopefully around 30% increase in torque... id love to do one on my cortina or even more on my ef falcon and get maybe 20-30kw more cause it would be cheap as... |

I wouldn't really ask or expect much from one of these on a Falcon. I though the heat induced came from the pressure rise?

well the air is heated fromt he air being compressed
but the charger iteself heats up from spinning like most things

A lot of heat in turbo setups and supercharger setups comes from the lubrication. Turbos are running oil from the engine (in most cases) which heats the charge significantly. My powerdyne has no hot oil running through it so produces a fairly cool charge. Vortechs have oil lines which increases discharge temp a bit.
