last night had my ute in park and i could see what looked like smoke coming from under my bonnet, lifted it up and had a good look but nothing, only when the engin bay is more so closed off with the bonnet down can it be visible puffing out near the headlights. recently did a coolant flush and the coolant may be a tiny bit to high, is this much of a problem? the vapor/smoke smelt kind of steam/oily, the ute was at idle for about 10mins when this happened, the turbo was radiating a little more heat than usual, all turbo gaskets are less than a month old and have been checked and are tight, i have a filter not a pvc valve also.

any ideas?

Did you touch parts of the exhaust with oily hands? If so it might just be oil burning off.

Top up the coolant and see if you lose it in the next couple of days. Air bubbles may have been slowly clearing away over the weekend. If not you may have a small leak on a hose or something causing you to lose it via steam.

i do admit it is due for a hose upgrade soon, rubber hose in the coolant line to the turbo could be the culprit.. there a fairly weak link in the chain usually

it has no blow by but i know what you mean, its not from there thou. more around the turbo. hasnt happened again so im guessing it may have been a bit of oily muck on the turbo.

every engine has some blow by, how much depends on the condition of the engine..
especially when on boost..

true, but there would still be some under boost which gives of oil smoke out the breather..

if it was bad you will soon know, it would push the dip stick out and oil would be every where..

just incase, have you thought about adding a catch can instead of the breather filter??

have, but i do alot of gravel rds so it would just be another thing that could potentially rattle loose. its done 200thou but its still in good nic so im not to concerned. the filter has been on for a month or two and there is no oil for the dust to stick to...yet

If there's oil in your intake or dump pipes ???
It could be that the oil return line is either too small or NOT directly down to sump enough..
It seems there should be 150 mm vertical before any angle or oil can build up;;
In some cases where turbo runs ball bearing housings...
You have to fit a 1mm restrictor.. I bought mine from GCG..
Blowing oil through seals doesn't exactly kill them..
