hey kev
thats what i'm trying to figure out now - i'm not going blindly in thinking the $2999 is all its going to cost me. i've emailed geoff in regards to the hidden extras i'd hope to hit ~180-185rwkw, and keeping it under the 9psi of boost which is considered the max

your tellin me you can run 9psi on the stock ecu?
hmm! so $2999.. and if your only aiming for the bottom of the range gains.. eg, id be happy with 170-180rwkw stock enjectors and fuel pump would be ok? so really.. its fitting cost (oil lines etc) and how ever much the pipework costs you for the intercooler? would be interesting if someone could get 170 rwkw up and running stable on stock computer for under 4000.. im considering this now! (JCI online insurance quoted me 1k a year for a turbo/intercooled lowered ef mont with rims in my name i think their thing might have some bugs.. then of course there is engineering? whats that worth these days?

Gaz, you should prob upgrade the fuel pump...could save a few headaches!
Also, how many km's has your car been through? You gotta factor in money to fix/replace anything that breaks + installation and tuning. I've heard it many times, don't try turboing unless you got about $10,000 or more!

ebEB, have a look at http://www.snortperformance.com for the their turbo kits.
The total cost will be: Turbo Kit Cost + approx $2000 ECU (Wolf3D v4 + Installation) + approx $3000 for Intercooler Piping, Kit Installation, Tuning + Insurance, Engineer's Report and making it all legit All up around $10,000 + more if your car is kinda old because components can break so you probably want to iron out any engine problems or get your engine rebuilt to be more boost friendly. You can probably get it done for $1000s cheaper than the prices listed, but it all varies vary HEAVILY depending on where you go. Use the list above as a very rough guide! Hope it helps.

WHAT DO I WANT thanks for the quick responce Yeah any major mod can be a huge headache. You dont have to get a full on ECU even tho it is the best value for money. Since in the setups like uglybobs hes only wanting low boost and the 180-185kw mark so not alot of ECU modificatoion needs to be done and a decent piggy back unit would be fine and will only cost round $1200-1600 from a unichip, chptorque, ems8860,haltech or autronic. Piping work etc shouldnt be more than 2K with all the extras 3K is a tad extreme. Rembering the 180rwkw mark fuel becomes a problem the stock injectors dont cut it so u need to upgrade and then its a pretty good idea to up the fuel reg and pump. Insurance and engineering certs are a good idea engineering will start round $250 for mates rates if u got one otherwise bout $450+ 180rwkw wouldnt be too bad but uglybob and alike u know youre gonna want more later so more post is gonna require some internal mods espescially improving and strengthening the bottom end to go with the extra power....then driveline, trans, diff will come into the picture and time for a brake upgrade....but yeah for the money whats going now aint bad....for me tho what that kit costs id just spent almost on the turbo...but for the money looks like a bargain

$2000 for intercooler piping Pffttt. You dont need solid gold pipes, mild steel will do. Using mild steel bends I did it myself for under $200 so I cant see an exhaust shop charging more than $500-600. Another thing to consider is battery. Are you going to relocate it to the boot or try and work around it? I would also recommend having the screamer pipe plumbed back into the dump pipe, I bought a snort stage 4 kit and had that done. As far as engineering goes you will need to have the intercooler mounted securely and not potruding below the front bar, pod will have to be enclosed, heat shields around turbo exhaust housing and dump pipe, and either no blow of valve of have it plumbed back into the intake pipe of the turbo. Apart from that you will need emissions report. That is what I have been told by Joe at Cresent (applies to NSW) but Chef had his engineered and could probably tell you more or correct me on a few points. I think $10 000 is a good rule of thumb for those not able to do much of the work themselves but could definately be done cheaper by someone switched on or only after a low boost set up. Just plan everything before you start and read Chef's thread on the first page.

The 2K dude if ya read the hold thread wasnt just intercooler piping...as i said above and mr_rx7 the 2K which i thought was more reasonible than 3K was for piping work, ECU tuning, all the installation/labour for all the components and an engineers cert which you really should have as a just incase.....nice to know also that someone who knows what there on about certifies your insane setup as safe legal and road worthy
