okay, im thinkin of running the stage 2 snort kit on my new motor which is getting built. Can anyone suggest whether this motor would be suitable for a stage 2 turbo kit, running around 8-12psi.
ACL Race series hypereutectic pistons/rings/bearings Rebored & honed, hot tanked block, fully balanced and linished crank JMM Race head, Stainless exhaust valves, DEV5 cam, Performance Springs/Adjustable Timing gear etc etc. Haltech Fuel & Ignition plug in ECU Im thinking maybe the compression will be a little high...could anyone tell me for sure?

And if that JMM head has been skimmed to raise compression then you may want to look at getting the chambers enlarged.

i dont think its been shaved, its one out of their factory, not my head redone to their specs. im using their steel head gasket which apparantly increases comp ratios but then again the ACL race rebuild kit comes with a gasket as well so i can decide between the two.

try a different cam too

Yes, start off with the stock cam until your setup is sorted, then look into a suitable turbo cam.
Motor sounds fine, just make sure its not over 8.5 to 1... that sort of motor with low 8.5 comp will take 18psi all day and return an easy 300plus wkws with the right turbo |

I'm using...(or was using) ACL Race SEries pistons...but i had them dished to suit the turbo application. I chose to run the AU steel gasket for added strength. But using that gasket means u need to drop compression in pistons and head chambers if your gonna put over 10psi thru it.

mate of mine spoke to jimbo mock earlier and jim reckons the ACL race pistons are a no go as the gudeon pin doesnt fit snug, said somethin bout GC pistons (i think). Either way im running the DEV 5 cam, then once i get the turbo ill pull that cam out, sell it and run a custom grind bad boy for the turbo. At the same time the heads coming off and a decomp plate is gonna sit underneath to bring the comp down a snatch.
Someone else might know this, what sought of rear wheel kwattage can say a stock LSD with 3.7 gears take? same with the 4 speed autos. My auto will be strengthened with a stally and shift kit. I dont wanna blow s**t to pieces, just wanna know how much to get the diff strengthened by.

300rwkw is limiting the diff
Tell more about the "GC" pistons

i know nothing about them, jim mock said something to em to my flat mate when he dropped my head in, when i get closer to purchasing pistons and whatnot ill ring jimbo and ask him bout them, im hoping jim might even be manafacturing turbo pistons soon, similar to the pistons in brendans xr turbo.

Seems a bit weird, I know a guy that had his engine rebuilt and tuned for his turbo setup at JMM, he is pushing 300rwkw. JMM put ACL race series pistons in his engine..?? |

A lot of people (including JMM) have been having trouble with ACL lately....The quality control is hopeless. So everyone is starting to look elsewhere....I had an engine problem a few weeks ago....And i'll take one guess what the problem is.

Fair enough, Its a bit disappointing, i was sure that the ACL path was the right one to go down, but now I'm not so sure at all..

People use ACL race series pistons cause they are cheap as chips and are a half decent piston too. If your going to go full house then there are much better options out there.

Hmm was going to go the ACL forged pistons and rods to build up an engine, now hearing this it may not be a wise thing to do. I have heard that JE and Eagle are a good brand, no?

Eagle are the next step up from ACL. Still relatively affordable. After that it begins to get pretty expensive. One brand worth checking out is atomic. They seem to be making some tough bottom end parts for the 4.0. In fact a prepped new falcon block, H beam rods, forged pistons and ARP rod bolts can be had for roughly 4 and a half grand.
