hey im new to the petrol turbo gig and i am just curious to what spark plugs people are running
what they found to be good and what they found to be absolute crap and what would be a decent set of plugs to get for mid range 9psi setup Tezza

The LPG plug seems fine but run plug gap alittle tighter..
.70 mm gap... More boost ?? I would tend to use the shorter electrode plug where cooling is better.. Atleast one range colder.. In the NGK range the higher the plug # the colder the plug.. I also find Iridium / Platnum plugs tend to glow and induce detonation ... As it says on NGK site.. For every 100 h.p lower heat range 1 heat range...

A slight hyjack. .... now im thinking maybe the iridium path might not be the best plugs for boost? i had these in the engine n/a then just re gapped them when i went with boost. you said iridiums tend to glow causing detonation?? while mine seems to run fine except some occasional detonation, mine are the ngk zrb6 iridiums gapped to .09, so the std zrb6 or 7 could give me better results as in less likely to cause detonation compared to the same iridiums??.. do you think a too cold of plug can have any negative effects other then the possability of fouling up?? |

Troyman, I'm running standard NGK's one range colder (7's I think) and gapped at 0.76mm. These seem to be working fine at the moment.
Definately a cheap and quick area to experiment with to try and remove some of that det.

Too much causes detonation and there is no point in earth going past the electrode... Indexing plugs to face exhaust helps against blow out also...

I run iridiums gapped to .9 ml on 9 psi and has no problems
The only reason they say not to gap iridium plugs is because they have a small electrode and most people would butcher it but I've done it plenty of times just be very careful. If the feeler gauge won't go in don't force it and when re gaping just take it easy. Peace of piss

Although 19 bucks for a plug is pretty high considering itd be fine with standard ngks gapped to .8 or so

Im using BPR7ES gapped at .88 mm and they are going good on 10psi, they are a nice colour and there is no detination. Indexed also.
I was getting spark break down on any hotter heat range.

When the manufacturers say not to gap irridium plugs it's good enough for me.
Irridium is brittle is why they should not be regapped. It could end up going through your engine, and that'd be a real smart move hey. Gap or don't gap it's up to you.

Im using XR6 turbo Denso plugs in my car at the moment. Im only running 7psi at the blower and so far have been good.
I plan on doing a major service this weekend. But in the next week or 2 I will be adding more boost via a smaller pulley, very similar to what TROYMAN has done. Should I go for a colder plug NOW, or wait till the pulley is on and worry about it then? What NGK model number will be ok for say 11-12psi boost?
