Hi all,
Just wondering if it is worth my effort to buy an RS Liberty water to air heat exchanger.. and put it on the I6/M90 combo. I ask because I can get one for 90 odd dollars from a guy down the street.. and it would simplify my piping issues geatly. I guess what I'm asking, is will this exchanger flow enough to significantly cool down the M90's output air? In the RS is apparently does 11PSI into a 2 liter motor. I want it to cool air to 9 or 10PSI to a 4lt motor.. I'll be using Water injection later probably as well. I could then sell this monster Air to Air I have here and get started fitting all this stuff to the car. The intercooler is the one seen in this photo: thoughts anyone? rgds Frank |

I should add that the heat exchanger has 3 inch intake.. so not a bad match in that respect..

There is some bloke around here with a black V8 fairlane. He has a vortech charged V8 running 350ish rwkw.
He was using the same cooler for quite a while and was making over 300rwkw. He recently upgraded to something bigger though. |

I'm only aiming for 220-250rwkw.. so that is good enough for me.
Thanks Mr Dan |

Just as well, because I bought it..
Anyone want to buy a massive brand new 660x350x80ish air to air intercooler? The water to air is better for my plans mostly because the M90 is limited in the about of boost it can give a 4lt i6 so not losing a couple of PSI through expansion would be a great bonus. Plus I can go nuts with a huge radiator up the front and no-one will notice that it is related to supercharging. (going to find the biggest evaporator I can lay my hands on and make it looked air con related). |

Frankieh, the RS Water/Air coolers don't normally come with 3 inch intakes do they? Has this one been modified?

Will the guy had a commodore 75mm throttle body on it.. so I assumed..
Having said that, the outlet on my M90 is only 2.5 inches anyway, so if it's 3 inches, I'd have to reduce it. I'm excited again... excellent life had intruded on my project, but getting motivated again. |

Dare I ask why water to air over air to air? Surely it's going to weigh a lot more? Also more to it to go wrong - e.g. pump, lines etc.
That air to air intercooler is way oversized to. I run a 300 x 300 x 75mm PWR Aero 2 with my PD at 9psi no dramas. The blowers don't make as much heat as turbos. |

being limited to boost with a supercharger youd hate to lose boost thru the intercooler. you can loose 4+ psi thru the intercooler so why not....!!

Hey,
I think that the Liberty W2A should do a decent enough job. You're not going to run an aftermarket ECU are you?? My Frozenboost W2A set-up keeps IAT's at about 35 deg'. You can order the heat exchangers seperately. I got the 600HP model, which does look a bit like an A/C unit. I was going to suggest getting rid of the A2A in favour of the latter, as you would probably drop to much boost. Does the 'charger have the std pulley on it??? I would get the smallest one you can, but just remember the M90 wont last long spinning to fast. Good work so far. Cheers Daz

Funny you should say that Dazzle.. I was thinking of finding the biggest baddest air con radiator for it I can find..
but yes, overall I think this will do the job nicely.. and if it's not enough, I'll add water injection too... might do it anyway so I can wind the advance forward on premium and get more out of it for those brief moments when you want to do a run on the strip. Wasn't planning on changing the ECU, but if it gets so I have to down the track.. I will get a megasquirt and do a stealth install of that. As for the pulley, I want around 10PSI, so I'll start with the one it has, see how it goes and then go smaller. I factored enough adjustment into the belt setup to allow for pulley shrinkage when I built the brackets. |

Dazzle, how are you measuring intake air temps....do you use a little probe style thermometer tapped into the intake manifold, or similar?
Frankieh, the RS cooler sounds great for your application. Look forward to seeing more updates.
