Hi all,
Was doing some routine checks on the supercharger setup on the weeked. I wasnt 100% confident the intake plumbing was airtight. For those who remember, the intake plumbing is made up of aluminium tubes and rubber sleeves. If visual aids are required, i have pics if someone wants to host. So, started the engine up and started spraying water on the joins in question. What do ya know.... the water disappeared, suggesting all is not airtight. It doesnt affect the engine idling etc. as this is all before the MAF (read: no unmetered air getting into manifold). Hurts me big time in creating boost and power. So i tightened all the clamps which made a hell of a difference. Now get a real 'pkshhhhhhh' from the BOV (which, might i add - sounds awesome on a V8 ) and suspect i may have picked up a few extra ponies. Im still not convinced tho. I'd like some suggestions on what i could use to ensure a better seal between the various parts of the intake plumbing. Something like silicone comes to mind but i'd prefer a sealant as opposed to an adhesive. I also dont really want a permanent bond between rubber sleeves and the MAF/BOV/TB etc. Any magical ingredient anyone knows about?

silicon should be fine just put a little smear of it on the connecting rubber it won't be too hard to break away if you ever need to take them off, easier than gasket goo anyway .... just a thought

what clamps are you using ??(no pics yet) i found standard hose clamps didnt tighten enough so i changed then to industrial hydralic type hose clamps .also put alloy anti blow of straps on to stop the pipes pulling apart.
worked a treat and found another pound! |

worked a treat and found another pound! Alrighty, just the kind of suggestion im looking for. Yeah im using "standard" hose clamps and i think the clip is on the verge of busting they're done up that tight. Franky - sending you email now, cheers for the hosting!!

Loctite Pipe and Thread Sealant is for the mechanical trade.
Silicone is for the building trade. Have you got a dyno print since the pump has been installed?

Got any details on this loctite formula? Yeah was only the dyno shortly after fitting, using incorrect measure of air mass so was too rich. Have had rectified but too busy at work to get back to dyno place.

You should be able to find it online. Works with BIG pressures and temperatures. Comes in a big toothpaste type squeeze bottle.
Loctite 518 also works good, known as jam, you can buy small tubes of that but you are talking about you hotrod, buy the propper stuff. I was putting a 302 together and wanted it to be oil and air tight so I asked about silicone. A good tradesman said silicone always has a wastage, the little bit that ends up outside of the mating surface. This will always fall off, eventually and you wouldnt want that in an oil galley.

Martin, give CBC (Consolidated Bearing Company) a ring. They have every loctite under the sun. Should be able to supply the one you are after.

Beauty - cheers darin. *doh* just realised a good friend of mine used to work down at CBC (near regency park innit?). Ah well, got a few links/idea to chase up on now (and a tax return to boot). Lol, frank should be here with some pics at some stage... seems like most ppl get where im coming from tho.

almost looks factory Nice little water injection there as well. Do you know what sort of volume of water it puts out? And what boost are you running atm?

Yeah i think its the lack of mandrel-bent chrome bits that makes it look factoryish. The plumbing to the intake is actually the PCV system - cant really apply boost to the crankcase, lol. The pics were taken prior to the water injection being plumbed. But seeing as you asked.... its a very small volume of water being sprayed in at the moment. Ive used a litre or so since the blower went on - 2 or 3 months worth now. I think there may be too much going in, sometimes feels like its killing the power so will be looking at playing around with some resistors to reduce the flow. Running about 7psi "on a good day" if i wring the neck outta it. Thanks for hosting them frank.
