Hi all,
Im thinking of getting a VT calais supercharged, but i'd like to know if there actually any good...anyone driven one? but iv'e also been looking at an el XR8 and supercharging that but fuel would be a b**ch. How do you all recon they'd go head to head(stock vs stock XR without s/charge) and around the track? cheers all also q/mile times would be great or 0-100

There not supercharged for performance, Holden designed that blower for more fuel econemy and a tiny little bit more power... go the XR8 supercharger or no supercharger its a better car all round and will s**t all over the VT |

Yeah, I think the blower took them up to 172kw - pretty piss poor, really.

ok cool, well in saying that will slapping a blower on the xr8 give me better fuel econ? or do the EL XR's have good econ to begin with? im just tossng up wether to go stock 8 or forced 6/8. reason being my mates just gone and got a VR SS and stepped it up a notch so perfect timing because im looking for a new ride as well and gotta get something with a bit of punch....were very competitive in all aspects.

Not sure about fuel econemy, Ask Either Martin (4.9_ef_future) or EL XR8. both have had Charged Windsors

ok then, vt's outta the question, ok so i get the xr, what do i need to do and roughly just roughly how much do i need to spend to get it ready for a blower? and is it worth it for the power supplied by the blower

Capa will do a complete kit for you with everything you need...
Go vortech, Easily best kit for V8 iv herd... They sell a Complete Vortech kit running at 10-13psi for $7999 or if your after something not quit as powerfull capa do Powerdyne 8psi kit for around $6300. The powerdynes are fairly Restrictive when it comes to boost because they run on a Internal Belt Config unlike the Vortech which runs on a Cog and gear system.... Or if you really want to go MEGA extreme you can get a custom Vortech kit running at 10-25psi for more cash Capa included a piggyback chip in there kits but a anything over 10psi id start to look at a Fully tuneable Aftermarket ECU |

Yeah, the V6 superchargers weren't really hooked up correctly from the start, so if you are looking for power, there are much better ways to go about it.
I have an EF XR8 (165kw from stock I think) with a Vortech kit (including water injection, but no intercooler... yet) on it, extractors and 3" exhaust now pushing 297rwhp. Thats running up to about 11-12psi and everything else on the engine is stock. Fuel economy, I get about 400km to the tank (I think its about 70L) country or city driving. Only time that changes that I have founf is when I go to the drags. Then it becomes 300km/tank. As I said in the other thread about EL XR8s, if you are looking for fuel economy, don't buy a V8 or forced induction.

CHEERS ALL,
i was wondering about the fuel econ because im just working out how much it will cost me weekly fort.. etc, and so far im more then able to afford it.....(until fuel reaches $2), it's weird because the EB does 14.5-15L per 100km roughly 400-450km(i do give it a good thrashin though), so i think i'll cut my losses and get an 8. so hows 160,000 k's, very good nick clean inside and out and only for $9000, 97 model.

check out www.v6supercharged.com.au (I think it is)... like the xr6 turbo, there is lots of cheap/small things you can do to get the supercharged commodores to get up and boogie. I went down the drags a few weeks back and there was one running 12's - from memory he had spent less than 10k on it too.

the blown VT has a bit of potential.
the fact that you can legally pull 13's from them is a bonus. factory forced induction is the stuff but still, stock they're s**t
