Ok, to explain my "issue".
Went into CMS this morning, hooked up the intake, throttle body, coil etc. Connected up the breather lines and filled her up with oil, chucked a bit of liquid in the radiator. Gave Joe the SCT Chip and he dropped in a basic tune to handle the 42lb injectors. While he did this we dry cranked the engine with the plugs out to pump around the oil. Pressure took a while to come up as I had fitted a engine oil cooler as well as a remote filter. She came up and showed good pressure. gapped the plugs to 0.8mm and fitted them. Plugged the chip in and Shane hit the key. Fired up first crank. Now the issue............ Massive belt slip. Screamed like a b**ch. I am using the BA Tensioner on the front dress so we grabbed a 3/8" long ratchet and applied a little tension to the tensioner and screaming stopped. With the pressure applied we gave her a tap on the thottle and she sounded good. No Lifter noise, no leaks and a beautiful whine from the charger on revs. Looks like with the additional length of the belt, the tensioner can't cope. . This was one place that I didn't expect issues, slip was on the steering pump not the Blower. This now leads me to DAZFAB to the rescue. After some thought of how to apply tension to the belt, I came up with the idea of welding a aluminium plate to the side of the BA tensioner, cutting a curved slot and tapping the Front Dress Plate. This will allow me to fit the belt and then use manual adjustment to increase the tension. this will still give me some tension with the BA tensioner to take up and slack. Got home around 4:30 and by 5:30 had the plate made, slotted and front dress tapped. Off tomorrow mornibg to see Daz to get her welded up and then back to CMS. When that is done it will be tune time. Anyway here are a few more pic's with the intake, throttle body and Coil etc fitted. Attachment: Attachment: Attachment: Attachment:

would a shorter belt overcome this problem?

{USERNAME} wrote: would a shorter belt overcome this problem? Shorter belt won't do the wrap. When we fit the current belt, I held the tensioner on full slack and Shane still had to squeeze the belt over the water pump. I was sure I would have been able to get away without any additional tensioning but looks like NO. . Ahhh well, these are the joys of doing something different. At least it is mine This project has been on the go for a few years with pleanty of research and advice from others. All the R&D in the world doesn't mean there will be no issues. This is why I have 2 weeks of for this. |

I like your idea of the high mount Z9, didnt realise the body of the charger took up so much space.-makes filter changing an easy task!

If think I have worked out where I went wrong with the tensioner. If you look at the pic below of the front of my engine you will see that I have positioned my tensioner after the supercharger and before the AC Pump.
Attachment: Now look at the front dress of the FG Engine in the pic below and you will see that the tensioner is positioned after the harmonic balancer. Attachment: I will get the tensioner modified as I described above but I will look at repositioning the tensioner to after the Balancer to even out the tension on the Alternator, Power steer pump, etc. Last edited by SWC on Thu Mar 21, 2013 10:57 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

Yes it is FG, but the dress is the same. So it looks like Ford got the layout right again . I will still try and improve upon it

All you got to do now Paul is make her a convertible, that way you'll look 10 years younger as the charger rips your wrinkles off
