I know it was kind of said in another post, but i'm trying to figure out what power i should try and get out of my supercharged setup.
For the time being, i really don't want to screw my T5, well i don't really ever want to wreck it.
But i was wondering whether putting something around the 240rwkw mark would be pushing it a bit. I'm not fussed about the diff lasting, just if i end up making that sort of power, would it be very beneficial to perhaps de-tune it a bit to say 220rwkw or even 200rwkw.
I don't drive it like a maniac, i only give it a bit of a hard time time every few months at Heathcote and so on.
This is if i actually do achieve anything near 240kw, but in case i do get some good power figures.....

Just wondering whether there would be huge difference of wear and stress on the T5 with the difference between 200 to 240rwkw???
Any help would be great.

Thanks Dave

Its all up to the way you drive..I had 270rwkw with my T5 but NO power shifting or any type of shock loading through transmission..Keep away from ceramic type clutch's too, or any type of clutch that takes up quick, you need some slip to be gentle...

Yep, just like fuel economy. Drive like a granny and she'll be right. In this case, don't go smashing into gears and you'll find she can take a hell of a beating.

just ease the power in I spose... with over 200wkws you dont need to thrash it go VERY fast... even if you just go half throttle and smooth changes you'll be way out in front of other cars

Well nothing lasts forever.

Basically the more torque you put through your gearbox over a longer time period the faster it will wear out. If you never floor it then you will never put 240Kw through it and it will last longer. If you take it to the drags all the time and run lots of 1/4 mile times then you will wear it out much quicker.
As for ultimate strength you might put 300RwKw through it.... once!

Avoid shock loading and just realise that it's going to wear out faster. I wouldn't de-tune your car, if your worried just don't push your foot all the way down!

Thanks for the responses, I don't usually give the car too much of a hard time. Occasionally shift hard into 2nd atm.
I just didn't want to be worried about the box all the time. I know its kind of one of the 'how long is piece of string questions'. I just want to be able to pussyfoot it around most of the time but not have the box fail at the first sign of power or a hard shift.

I think having my clutch the way it is now, might help the box, cause its a bit worn, well, the flywheel anyway. So i don't mind slipping it off the line if need be. I need a new one soon....

there's a turbo'd EB with a stock T5 in it, it runs over 600hp, but i don't know how he drives, but yeah, thought that might help.

Cheers mate, yeah i don't think i'll be looking anywhere near that power figure anyway.
I might try and keep it relatively sane, with hopefully around the 200+ rwkwk mark. (It better get over 200!)
Then perhaps get a different pulley to up the boost a little. (Once i have the money to pay for any breakages!)

Thanks for the help.

In my pi ion it wont last .

I dont considder that i drive very hard and when i got to 200rwkw the T5 only lasted 8 weeks and thats with no burnouts or really hard takes offs.

Accelerating in 2nd and especially 3rd will kill it and dont say you wont give it a squirk. I mean if your not going to give it a bit of a drive whats the good of doubbling the cars power. LOL
