The plan with the wastegate is, to have the current external gate, and also another gate plumbed into the cooler piping. Both working with the same spring pressure, and both controlled off the same boost solenoid. When the boost setpoint is reached, both gates should start to open together, currently, my manifold gate wont control boost.. It just keeps on pumping (exactly the same thing happened with my gt35 setup, went through many different configs, and eventually had to vent the exhaust from the turbine housing, to allow it to vent enough for proper boost control)

I didnt expect the new turbo to have the same issue, as the turbine flows considerably more. But I did, so the fix was to rip the spring out the v-port, and set it up til it was just leaking enough air that the wastegate was able to control the boost ok. So, with the wastegate right open, it will hold say 15PSI, and then that puts the other couple of psi of control onto the wastegate.

The new setup will be a massive improvement, because I will be able to enjoy 100% spoolup, at minimum rpm, but also have my boost controlled properly... As it is right now, the spoolup is s**t.. As it needs to overcome the massive air leak created by my bypassing BOV.

But anyway, it willl be sweet with my planned changes. The turbo will be turning no more faster than it is right now.

Dont have any recent pics..

The term "stock bottom end" is used fairly loosely, as I have spent considerable money on the bottom end in the past.. Stock refers to the parts in the rotating assembly, while the pistons are not stock, neither is the condition of the rotating parts. The crank has been blueprint ground and index checked, oil galleries chamfered, crack tested, balanced. Harmonic balancer and flywheel assy balanced to crank. The rods were closed and honed, crack tested, and balanced across all the small and big ends (it has original 1992 rod bolts). The block has been crack tested and all main caps line bored (original main cap bolts) It runs acl race series bearings, race series pistons and rings, crow cams timing chain and adj gear.

When i get it going again ill have it up Kadina. Tonight I just finished a bosch 160A alternator conversion on it, with all the pumps, fans and other s**t on it, even my 120A rewind couldnt keep up once the lights were on at night.

Whats the latest with your bus Ben?? How much power you making? did you ever build that motor using the Howards rods??

Brad

managed 468rwkw @ 18psi on bp98 with the old setup, that was pretty much on its limit but

the new bottom end is all built with the head of the old engine and a new custom surecam..

it just got dropped it in the car last week... now im onto wiring up a autronic 500r and 6 coils and plumbing a surge tank and 044 pumps... then i gotta build a decent exhaust

500r and 6 coil.... Now were talking. Any particular reason for that?? did you have any missfiring??

haha yeh i managed to get the 500r at a decent price...

yeh on the 468rwkw tune i had to gap the plugs down to .7mm to stop spark blowout... but realy i just want an ignition system that is more than good enough so i dont have to worry about it..

What ign were you using then? did you have a CDI?

Im using a HI-6, and so far havent experienced spark problems... However, a 6 coil system would be sweet

and std dizzy??

thats strange. had you ever re-indexed the rotor to set the point of full boost timing to be right in the middle of the rotor button and lead contact? or left std rotor angle

yea ok, be interesting to see if I run into problems with spark. I would have thought that with E85 I would have seen issues if I was going to, it requires higher spark energy due to the denser mixture..

Either way, I HOPE I dont, because I cant afford ign upgrades.

Do you have the dizzy in place to act as a sync sensor still then?

Oh, and I must say, congrats on the black comp cover, rocker cover and plenum... reminds me of mine
