well, the decision has been made, i am going to use a toyota R154 5spd... they are super strong, lots of 500rwhp+ cars use them no worries...

i will try to do the complete conversion myself, as in, i will try adapt the bellhousing, make own crossmember, spigot, clutch plate and yoke.. rather than pay for an adaptor kit, i beleive i can handle fitting it

i can pick the box up for $1450

Ive heard nothing but good things about him.

Good luck with the conversion, I bet there is a dollar or 2 to be had if you decide to produce a few of them as kits.

will look into making it a kit form, with an adaptor, clutch, thrust bearing etc...

jim called me again yesterday morning, he is going to be wrking on the clutch this week, he is going to modify a ss pressure plate to have an extra 1000+lbs of clamp load, so it will be something like 3600lb clamp load, he said he starts with two different types of pressure plate, one style has the best diaphragm pivot ratio, and the other style has the best casting, so he combines the best diaphragm and ratio with the best casting, he says it will not have any extra pedal effort, the clutch plate will be a 5 puck solid carbotic button item with a sprung centre, suited for the 21 fine spline r154 input shaft

sounds like this project will be a goer. when it comes time to make my adaptor, he advised i need to have it within .005" alignment, most dellow/castlemaine/mal wood bellhousings are never that close, he has seen them upto .070" out of alignment and they cause all sorts of problems.

i havent even looked into the speedo drive, or tailshaft yoke, but surely they wont be that big of an issue...

it will be a benefit of everyone here to have details of how to fit one of these boxes since there has been talk of them on here before, yet i have no eveidence of the conversion actually being performed

Not the best topic to ask the question, but what sort of oil are you using? I'm interested to know if having the turbo changes the oil requirements from the norm at all.

turbos do change the oil requirements a fair bit, i run pennzoil 15-50 semi synthetic..

the books relating to turbo systems have info such as a full synthetic is the best do to heat handling properties, additives put into oil to make it multigrade are bad for turbo systems and these additives break down (mono grade oil is best apparently) so the bigger the difference from hot-cold viscosity the more multigrade additives in the oil. oil coolers are highly recommended, BUT a good oil cooler system will have a thermostat as mine does, this is because whacking a big ar.se oil cooler in and cruising along with very small loads will mean the oil isnt reaching its optimum operating temp... oil needs to be kept cool, but not below a certain temp or it is bad...

this said, i am not using the best oil i could be.. but it has proven its worth so far....

note the pressure plate has been setup to provide 4000lb clamp load, and the fine 21 spline toyota input shaft.
