Hey guys, i have sourced a complete turbo kit to suit a dedicated lpg el.
T04Z garrett brand new log style manifold, made up for the kit oil send and receive lines screamer pipe with plumb back cross over pipe to run the boost into the runners i have budgetted for an electronic boost controller, turbo timer and afr gauge, already have the boost gauge now i plan on removing the petrol all together so i will save on the upgraded fuel pump, injectors, ecu and its tune. Plus cheaper to run etc now i know i need to get a boost line fitted to the converter so more lpg is provided under load. But apart from that, what am i forgetting, it seems to easy to be true! Oh and does anyone know if the log style manifold is any good? I am paying 1100 for the turbo kit cheers guys! Matt

Can anyone tell me if the latest sprintgas mixer setup can keep the air fuel ratios correct on boost, also does the mixer need to be located horizontally and anything else i will need to know about getting this system on without an intercooler and complianced
the kit is 1100plus 100 to get it fitted. Looking forward to seeing how the log style manifold works out as im told that under boost it wont make much difference between those and the runner style manifold

A 'Turbo (and compliance) your car for $2k' guide will be made up as soon as i get it all done.
$1,100 for a kit plus $450 for the compliance, no epa since its lpg and boost controller, afr and boost gauges, $2k. Cheers

LPG still needs to pass EPA.
unless your car is PRE 87

im told that they see the petrol system is removed and just check it off as lpg does not pollute nearly as bad as petrol.
ill need to look into it, maybe call the epa

From a Vipac engineer:
Quote: To meet emission requirements on this vehicle you will need to be emission tested to the ADR applicable to the the date of manufacture, ie. ADR 37/00, comply with AS1425 and be fitted with an AAFRB Compliance Plate. Vipac's fee to perform an exhaust test emission test to ADR 37/00 req'mts on your system will be $1,400 + gst. The vehicle will subsequently need a VASS approval certificate to cover these modifications which we can also facilitate - estimated price, assumng no other modifications involved for this is $700 + gst, with 50% upfront for the initial inspection and review. Please get the vehicle checked by an approved AAFRB installer to ensure that the LPG vehicle meets the basic design requirements and can be fitted with a compliance plate after it passes the ADR 37/00 exhaust emission test. And another engineer: Quote: ....However, operating your 1996 vehicle on straight gas does not get around the emissions requirements and you will have to prove compliance to ADR 37/00 or 37/01. This will probably mean a test (approx $3,000) and my feeling is that it will be very difficult to pass. You should ask the supplier if they have any test data.

BTW both those are for a 96 model car, pre 86/87(cna't remember) cars are the ones that don't need the test if they're straight LPG

I am building an 87 XF straight gas and for the car to be complianced it must be EPA tested. So I am changing to an 85 shell to avoid the EPA testing. The ADR changed in Feb of 86.

Theres an old saying 'you do get what you pay for' so just be wary thats all. I have seen a car on the dyno running one of them ebay turbos (chinese crap), and on its first dyno run it sheered the main shaft and bits went everywhere, incl debris into the engine.. When I turboed my car, it cost me $1300 alone just to build the turbo manifold, and I am a boildermaker. Then add a Garrett turbo, theres another $2300. You will find it all adds up real quick. But I wish you all the best in your quest, and hope it all works out for you. Let us know how it turns out.

i'm assuming 2nd hand?
slightly off topic, i was reading some table of garrett abbrieviations today and it said z = compact. So what is more 'compact' about a to4z compared to a to4b or e? *edit: woah f**k, just saw that the turbo is apparently new....i would check to make sure its actually a garrett and hasn't just got a garrett housing slapped on it, i had a feeling the turbo alone was more than that?

T04Z are a top rated turbo, generally over $2k.
