G'day

After having a look on ebay i found a 2500 kit from snort performance. Most of you wouldn't know but i'm putting an el motor in my xf wagon.

I was just gona leave it standard with a cam, extractors, and cold air intank. I was also thinking about the 6 throttle body setup from jays rpd, however. By the time i add up the 400 for the extractors, 200 to fit the new pipes, 1500 for the throttle bodies, 300 odd for the cam and 100 odd for the shims and rocker gear. that comes up to about 2500.

I know that the kits do need to be fitted, have more piping made for the cooler and the dump pipe. I could do the fitting, and i reckon it would cost about 300 for the piping to be made up (my exhaust guy is good).

It will be running on megasquirt, so thats not an issue. I all ready have a bosch motorsport fuel pump and surge tank for my fuel system, so that'll be ok for what i'm doing.

The biggest question i have, what about the driveline? I have an ed xr6 t5 all ready fitted, will it handle 6-9 psi? What about the diff, its just a standard 3.45 lsd.

Cheers

driveline wise, as EBS_4l just found out, the T5 dont take a whole lot of power!

Hes just finished his turbo setup on an EB 4l, made 328rwkw or close to that, clocked up all of around 100km's on the T5 before it started making noises. By memory I think they can handle around 220-240rwkw before they start giving way.

And Pyroay is running 411rwkw through a standard EL XR6 3.45 LSD. Trick is to treat them nice ;)

a stronger clutch is a must as for the diff it should hold up up.

G'day

From what i can tell the stage 2 kits from snort performance will only yeild about 180-200rwkw anyway.

What do i need to do to the motor internally? Only want about 170-180 anyway. I just want to keep it on the cheap while having extra power over the naturally aspirated version.

When i added up the costs of doing all the na mods, it comes up to the cost of the turbo kits.

What other thing will i need to buy to bolt it in the car?

Cheers

The T5 still wont last all that long at 200rwkw. IMO they are good for around 150-180rwkw for a while but once you get to 200rwkw and over they simply will not last, unless you drive gently.

Diff is a different story and i think will be fine, i have had no trouble with the standard one and am making over 425rwkw and drive the car daily.

Custom Built T56 6 speed manual from Mal Wood in QLD .

I had both a T5 and the T5 "Z" spec box first before this one.

I must say this box feels very solid, although it is expensive.

T5 "Z" spec box is probably the best value one i have come accross for $2,200 changeover and held my 300rwkw fine.

the upgrade ill probably go for is a set of gforce t5 gears from the states, they rate them at 600hp, and can be bought in any combination ie. dog/synchro/helical/straight cut...

has anyone had anything to do with these a***??

they would be around $2500 for a a***

Thats just stupid spending that sort of money on a T5. Its not just the a*** in a T5 thats weak, its got to do with the way the torque loads up on the secondary shaft bearings. I can put you in touch with a Tremec TKO for $2800 (the guy has 2 left over from a group buy).

PANE...with x-falcon down i haven't had a chance to ask how its all going?
My mate is just doing the RWC on his OHC xf (my old motor) this week and should be rego'd shortly. Another mate is DAMN close to getting his long motor/gbox dropped in. Its all dummied together anyway. Plus i'm just starting to chase another long block to drop in my xf. Could be going for an AU motor this time but it depends what turns up and at what price.

I'd have to check but i think they were model TCET4615
They are rated in terms of torque capacity up to 600 ft-lbs.

You'd have to locate a T5 bellhousing and get it re-drilled and tapped. The TKO pattern is the same as the old toplader/single rail pattern if i'm not mistaken. There is plenty of spece to do this, i already checked by dropping a single-fail box onto a EA T5 bellhousing.
