Anyone made heat sheilds to go over their turbo? The guy thats doing my engineers report want heat sheilds over the turbo... I've started making them from stainless steel sheet metal, but I'd like to see some others to get some ideas
Doesnt have to be ford though |

if u do make a heat shield include some breathing holes so the turbo wont heat up too much??? or if it doesnt matter then meh
anyway what car is that?? looks like a m3 or something in the background, but could it be a corvette?

Looks like a vette to me
Sheild is all done now. I spoke with the turbo shop and what I have done is cool... BB's can get too hot in the shaft area but plain bearings are all good. Engine bay temps are down now too |

Yea but b/b are usually water cooled...
Any shielding should be ok as there are blankets [nappies] over them holding heaps heat in...But don't seem to have issues...

I've heard stories about nappies lately, over heating bearings apparently

Ceramic coating is very good investment when it comes to hot components..It adds power when turbine housing is coated...
Like these...Scrole down.. http://turbochargedpower.com/96-04%20Mustang.htm Nice ??

I have been thinking the same thing - I need something to bring down engine bay temps...already melted a brake booster (damn plastic EF/EL ones!) - I was leaning towards a heat bag for the exhaust housing...but like you guys have heard mixed things about them.
I know Michael (EB_six_on_boost) has a heat shield to separate the hot temps from his dump pipe / exhaust housing from his brake booster - Graeme - do you know if Michael is still using this ? The stainless heat shield looks nice and neat...is he also still running the heat bag over the exhaust housing of his turbo ? I need to do something though - hopefully have car on the road in the next week or thereabouts and would like to NOT melt anymore things underbonnet wise |

a amte of mine just finished bolting on a turbo to xr8 and it looks like the guys who done it have just cut and moulded an old AU/Ba Heat Sheild to it

That wouldn't happen to have been done by Mike's Dyno in Dandenong by any chance ? |

Graeme - no further explanation needed ! The luxuries of a drag car 'eh.
Bentles (if that is indeed your real name? lol) - I currently have it wrapped up with flashtac...but it's messy and interim...I don't know how good a job it is actually doing...I know Aaron has some flashtac (or equivalent) on his brake booster - must help in some capacity. |

This is what I ended up making for a shield... eng bay temps are alot lower now. The shiel around the master cyl looks crap so its in the bin. I dont think it needs one with the big shield over the turbo.
