Just a couple of quick questions for all the guys out there who are running gas turbos. Im thinking gas research with a GT3040 or 3540 and if so what size GRA throttle bodies are you running? 1 or 2 convertors? and who do you get to do your tuning (In Melbourne)? also what have you done in the way of ignition boost retard? Any info would be great info. Thanks.

YOu can talk to them and find outif any of there recomended fitters and tuners do that sorta stuff and that. There's also PDF files on turboing on LPG to download off there site and that. gas research isnt the only option

obviously not many people know about turbo lpg setups.

You can also use other lpg systems for turbo apps as well, depends on money and how much HP your after and what you want.

i have an xf with 4.1l turbo running
impco 225 mixer and single L model converter
rx7 turbo blahh blahh i want gas research but as previously said its not the only option
the 3540 would be gorgeous but maybe a little over sized unless your going wild
go the 3040
a single 440 mixer and twin b2's would be the best (unless you can fork out the dough for LP injection mmmm drool)
but yer run that or try with twin L model impcos and twin 225 mixers (would be a pain to tune and way not worth the effort)
GRA would be the best option
good luck oh an gra can send you a list of their distributors (the ones they think are the best)

a GT3540 is a perfectly sized turbo for a 4.0.

in my opinion the 3040 would be a better option but its just my opinion others have stated theirs so its up to you.... have fun...

cool thanks for the info guys!
thinking the gt3040 is the go and gonna stick with the GRA only because
i know a little about it and it seems there are a few people around with it
on (more info available). How have people sorted there ignition retard?

im using an MSD universal boost timing master
part number# 5462
easy to wire in and can add up to 20 degrees retard. (new version) and 15 degrees retard (old ones).

couple of hundred not much and they work...
for a few more hundred you can get the crane HI 6
and then you add the timing controller that retards it...

Gday spack-pilot. Was actually looking at the MSD PN 5462 It looked the goods. Has it been adaquate for your car (15 degree retard)? Was also looking MSD PN 6462 ($$$) But seems a bit overkill? What sort of RWKW are you making?

havnt had it dynoed yet... still in the process of gettin it done and engineered...
seems to be adequate... no pinging but i have it set to full retard so im not making as much power as i could be... having said that it still blows away many unsuspecting cars such as a 300zx with "fully hectic cannons" and stuff (it was Twin turbo ... could hear it) then he heard me as i went past hahaha
the #5462 also amplifies your spark (internal amplifier thingy) and is really simple to wire in...
have a look on ebay.com and ebay.com.au they pop up for real cheap sometimes...

anything will work, GRA is just easy to fit onto an injected XF manifold, its the most compact mixer, but is a little more complex to tune from what I've heard.

yer they use jets instead of shims to lean it out or make it rich.... so you cant just whack a few more or less shims in you have to order the right jets...
but they dont use a big diaphragm like an impco mixer, thus increasing flow and allowing for less loss of boost pressure across the mixer (if anyone gets what i mean can you put it in a better way than that..?)

oh also i have heard that the GRA mixers can flow nearly double in a boosted application...

If you mean a gt35/82r with a 1.06 rear I would agree 100%.

If you mean any of the official garrett gt30 series then they are all hopelessly undersize. They are recommended by garrett for use on 1.8 to 3.0 litre motors.

If you mean a gt3582r with a .82 rear this is a lot closer to reality;

It'd be a hoot to drive off idle as boost would come on very quick, but it wouldnt pull hard throughout the entire rev range, as the .82 rear would prove to be a big restriction.

Depends what you want really. Me? I'd take the 1.06 rear anyday.
