hey ebman , i guess this is for a turbo application?
use a 20mm hole saw and a drill and drill the hole as close to the top of the sump as u can so u dont get any pooling or splash back, approx in rib 1 on the side of the sump then either use a self thread tapping fitting or which ever u have and seal it and connect ur oil return to that elbow or fitting ill get picks up for u i did mine in the car but i tested it on an old sump ages ago , just let me know if u want them posted up |

How the hell did you manage to avoid getting metal shavings in the sump?! Or is it possible to remove the sump on a 6 while the engines in the car?

Nope K-frame is in the way. Got to lift the engine to remove the sump. Maybe leave oil in there to catch the bits drain afterwards and hope all were removed? |

just leave oil in there drill hole, drain oil, the oil pick up has a strainer bits won't go through and the bits that do the oil filter will catch them.

or use magnetic oil if that helps.

Sorry, but I don't believe for a minute that Castrol Magnetic is actually magnatised and will attract to metal. If it did how does it flow around? As the engines metal so it wouldn't want to move as it'd just stick to the metal! That's the biggest load of bullocks ever! |

i think when cold it may contain magnetic molecules twr, but when heated looses them so it doesnt all seep to the bottom, how ever they are not magnetised enought to pickup metal shavings.

yeah if u do it in the car put a magnet on the sump, leave oil in there drill hole and when uve fitted the return then change oil and filter but the tiny metal filings will get trapped in the oil filter but most of the time its so tiny it just sits in the sludge in the nbottom of the sump , also ur oil pickup has mesh .

When u go to drillthe hole, have the sump unbolted and drop it down onto the K-Frame so you have a 1-2 inch gap to get your hand inside the sump.
get a rag and fill it with grease. Hold the rag inside of where you are going to drill the hole, and drill slowly. The rag should catch all the filings that the drill bit makes. |

After you've done that, it would probably still be a good idea to flush the sump out with some oil, etc.
